My fiancee has a friend, who is having a baby out of wedlock - the father has run off. She suggests that when the baby is born next year that we will be written down as the mother and father. The baby will not have our DNA though.

What are the implications of this?

Ask her that. Ask her why she wants this.

She's nearly 45, and has always wanted a baby - I cannot have children, and her previous husband couldn't either.
I am okay either way, - but can the child gain UK citizenship or is there more of a test?

Oh the 'she' is your missus? Sorry, I am finding your posts to date confusing and always hazy. Maybe it's just me. Or maybe you like the Red Horsie. Anyway, I think I get it now.

You are not the father or the mother (!) so it's like you are adopting but not doing the adoption process? Legally that sounds awkward, and surely it couldn't just get British citizenship because of this (I appreciate I don't know the details, I'm trying to be logical).

Why not just adopt and do it all properly?

because he wants to buck the visa system and as a consequence you, I and many more individuals who have bonefide relationships have to jump through hoops on the application and pay huge fees as we go along
    He is shameless

what you are suggesting is highly illegal immorral and shameful on all those contemplating involvement.
let me know if you go ahead I will be at the front of the queue to report you.
it's antics like you are suggesting that cause bonefide applicants greater grief when going through the process.
you should hang your head in shame on just the very thought.

Basically it would be classed as human trafficking as you would have no legal right to take the baby away from the Philippines if you get caught there doing it you stay may be far greater than you want.

I assume you mean the OP and the title you are not comfortable with? or is it the further comments?
The thread should be in my view left on but maybe locked after further rebuke from the administration team, to just delete it may look like sweeping it under the carpet.
That's my twopenth worth other than what I have already responded

All I did was raise the topic, and asked the complications, and I have to agree with your comments, they are sound and correct, bending the law in not advisable, after all isn’t that what eve did in the garden, when she ate the apple.

My wife tells me that it's becoming quite popular for some of the rich Filipinos to use a US surrogate mother to generate a whiter more western looking child ...
