I can't ever imagine that this state of affairs could exist in the Philippines.
So many virgins in Japan seems shocking.
Filipinos are not as shy and introverted as Japanese people.

I have never been to Japan but met many Japanese scuba divers over the years and their shyness in front of foreigners was plain to see.
It seems their shyness is causing problems with their own people too.

I would love to go to Japan as it has always fascinated me from a distance.
Years ago it always seemed so expensive to visit so I visited other Asian countries instead.
I don't know if it is still prohibitively expensive to spend time there, compared to the Philippines or Thailand for example.

I was offered a free flight to Japan once, went to Thailand instead, Japanese used to flock to the PI years ago to the mail order bride places where you used to flick through a catalogue of photographs.

I didn't know there were "mail order bride places" in the Philippines?

It is sad that there are so many lonely people in Japan.

Years ago when I first went you could pop into an office, peruse a catalogue, choose several women from their photos.

I suppose that is handy for shyer people.
It seems strange though because there are so many friendly Filipinas over there and it only takes a day before somebody will mention that they know a lovely girl in their village!

Back then there was no internet, average brit probably found it a bit daunting and alien going halfway around the world to meet a woman, those marriage clubs were made illegal in the early 90's I think then they masqueraded as "travel agencies",used to be a few of them in ermita.

Yes I agree Druk1, I only met a few adventurous British travellers in my visits over there and they were usually connected to jobs in Asia.

I did once meet a guy there from sunderland of all places, standing in Dumaguete airport with his mum, they had came over to meet a girl he had been writing to and got engaged to by mail or telephone, totally incongruous meeting a fellow mackem plus his mam in such a setting :D
