Again in some instances an out of date A1 result can be used, I stress the word some!! But this area is very limited and technical, I wouldn't like to try it.

    Look at it this way.
An applicant passes a test at an approved centre isn't going to go backwards in their understanding of English.
Why an approved centre currently on the list? An audit took place of providers of English language courses and exams to ensure bonifide practises were in place , some centres were not upto it hence if you took the test there a retest is required.
In summary a good centre and a good pass the candidate isn't going to go backwards over time.

Hi guys I know this conversation has been discussing English tests but as the original was visa applications I thought I would throw this in.

We just got an email saying my wife and daughter are not eligible to have their biometrics reused or to be able to use the app.

So they have to attend an appointment, I have searched the whole of the UKVCAS sites and there are no free appointments anywhere even appointments at 10am are payable the standard fee us £110 per person so £220 for us. I did find some at £185 but that was in Luton and it would have cost more to get there and back.

So this bull about free appointments is a complete and utter lie as they don't exist anywhere.

Here is the email they sent
We are writing to you to confirm we received your UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) application between 5 – 11 September 2020.

At that time, you were not able to book a UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services (UKVCAS) appointment immediately due to the on-going impact of COVID-19.

We are delighted to let you know that you can now book an appointment at one of the UKVCAS Service Points so we can process and submit your supporting evidence to UKVI as part of your visa application.

UKVI have confirmed to UKVCAS that you are not eligible for its new biometric reuse policy.

This means you must book an appointment to complete your visa application and cannot use the UKVCAS IDV app that you may have heard about.

    Next Steps
    • Login to your UKVCAS account here to book an appointment.

    • If you have any issues with the link above, login through the UKVCAS website here.

    • To help you, when looking for an appointment, please scroll down to look at ALL the Service Points listed. This lists Core sites, then Premium Lounge sites and Enhanced Service Points in distance order but the other sites below them in the list may be closer to your location. If you look at the full list of service points, you may find a cheaper appointment available at an alternative location.

    • Once your booking is confirmed you will receive a confirmation email with attachments containing QR codes for each applicant. The QR code attachment is a key document that all applicants will need to print out (if possible) and bring to their appointment(s). At peak times, it may take us a few hours to send your confirmation email and QR code(s).

    • Printing the QR code attachment will reduce the amount of time you will spend on site and avoid any risk to yourself and our staff who may have to handle your mobile phone to scan your QR code.

We applied around July 16th and have not received an email to say if they can reuse my wife's biometrics.

Not sure why they haven't contacted us.

When we made the application it gave us a deadline for Biometrics in our case it said November 10th, I'm sure they should have given you a date, I think you should call them if you are nearing the deadline date.

Which visa do you need new biometrics for can I ask.

You need to submit new biometrics with each new application.
However where your biometrics have been submitted previously within certain UKBA guidelines then they will reuse.
They advise the candidate either way

yeah just been getting up to speed on sopra steria, so we will need biometrics done and use the scanning service for my wives /FLR visa look about '£200 for that at a centre and then more fees if you want a quick decision so more expense ,not great at scanning etc and putting it all on pdf so looks like the centre is best bet for me there is one in Reading opened might be good or else its @croydon or london.

    Hi Just a quick note
When you are searching for a visa biometrics Centre it asks for a postcode to search from, what I did was put different post codes from different parts of the country, they are easy to find on the Internet, the system then gives you a different selection of centres based on that postcode with the distance from that postcode not where you actually are.
If the distance from you is acceptable then go for it.
That's how I found a £92 appointment in Luton, but for me it was not worth the drive to save £18
    Hope this helps

I probably have more to upload then you; as my daughter is also applying which complicates the issue.

Check out this website it is really helpful and free https://www.migrate.org.uk/flr-m-2018/ it give 12 steps to complete an application.

Something you have not mentioned which you should write and upload is a letter to support your application, both the applicant and the sponsor should write, which is a summery your application; what you are applying for, when and how you met, your housing, your job, fiances, why you think you should be given a vise etc., should be included in that letter.
