Oh and one other thing John, the reason I even posted a reply to the guy rather than just deleting the agreement which I saw within a fairly short time of it being posted, is that my actions are transparent, I could have deleted the tick and left it at that almost no one, almost certainly no one would have noticed, but I am damned if I am going to hide that kind of edit ever.

Same reason I use edit: in my posts I could hide what I said by changing the history of the post instead I leave what I said in place and clarify, sometimes when I realise I made a mistake or sometimes when I am just wrong, I won't hide or try to cover up my words.

And the reason why post edits are more tightly restricted these days is to make us all stand by our words, people all people should think before they post anything on the internet, be it here or anywhere else.

lets not lose sight of the fact the relevance of this bit of the thread is that you found it a necessity to draw readers attention to the fact it had taken me 2 weeks to put a dislike on your post.
There endeth my input on the subject:like:

Because Trump normalised open blatant racism once more, it's one of the things that endeared him to his base, not all but a large proportion of those who voted for Trump are seriously terrified of their future white minority status in America and have so little basic humanity and compassion that they can only imagine that the future majority population will treat them the same way they have treated minorities for hundreds of years.

And in that fear they lay bare their own souls for all to see, minds full of guilt, bitterness and terrified of retribution because they can't imagine anyone behaving differently to themselves.

Vice President Harris is for them symbolic of that future.

And the other reason is that there is money to be made by the media who relentlessly promote this kind of world view so it is not going away.

A view on Trump as a racist against other presidents https://www.npr.org/2020/10/19/925385389/is-trump-really-that-racist?t=1611431290863

Extract from the link below. (pick your horse to win the race but you dont always have to like the rider! thats the lows of politics)

As racial injustice became a major issue in the United States, many Democrats called on Biden, the party’s presumptive nominee, to select an African American woman—a demographic that was seen as pivotal to his election chances—as his vice presidential running mate. In August Biden chose Harris, and she thus was the first Black woman to appear on a major party’s national ticket.

I have decided that Trump should go to prison after all, having followed the impeachment trial

Realize I'm a bit late to the discussion. I think my view can be summarised as:

Trump is a sociopathic nut who belongs in jail.

As a former NY resident I'm incredibly pleased he has finally gone - and all my friends stateside are too. Trumps attacks on democracy and the November election farce was pretty damn scary. Under his stewardship the GOP has become a hothouse for right wing conspiracy theorist nuts. Truly dreadful. Look at Ted cruz for goodness sake. The man's a freaking worm.

Been watching day 4 of the Impeachment trial, and I must say that Trump lawyers are making mincemeat of all the accusations.

Lots of the evidence used against him is manipulated and given wrong context by cutting videos and speeches...

It's a political trial where a large part of half of the jury were and are co-conspirators who are also in effect on trial and who know their own guilt.

The purpose of this trial is to bar this man from public office permanently it will not succeed in that goal but it will lay bare, for all honest people to see, the deep disingenuity and complicity of the majority of elected Republican politicians, and their hypocrisy and mendacity over the last five years.

    edit: corrected my spelling.
