Have you ever tried the Aldi test?

Store Assistants in Aldi are targeted with scanning 1000 items an hour through the till, which they need to balance with providing good customer service. At the end of each month your manager puts a list of all Store Assistants’ till speeds up in the staff room, indicating if you have been faster or slower than the previous month, which generates some healthy competition amongst you and your colleagues. You have just arrived at work and the new list is up in the staff room. You can see that your average till speed currently stands at 947 items per hour, which is slower than last month, and one of the lowest in your team. You think this is because you have been trying to pay more attention to your customers. What do you do?

One Best Answer and one Worst answer!!!

Try to scan a bit quicker but continue to spend time talking to customers and helping them out to provide the best customer service you can.
    Best
    Worst
Focus on scanning more quickly to improve your average till speed for next month, but continue to be polite to customers.
    Best
    Worst
Explain to your Manager the reasons for your current average till speed and suggest targets are changed.
    Best
    Worst
Try to scan as quickly as you can to ensure you show big improvements next month.

I filled this test in and I failed - Aldi want machines !!!!! They expect you to scan 1000 items an hour. There intelligence test just ruled me out, would it you?

As a home delivery driver for a supermarket, I would give this a thumbs up.

Why go to the hassle of being stuck in traffic, then finding a place to park, and then do all your shopping in the time frame allowed in the car park.

Far easier to get the supermarket to bring the shopping to you by the smiling, friendly driver.

certainly so if you live a fair distance--and time is precious. For me--tesco is a mile away and i have all the time in the world. But then ive also got a dishwasher..ive used it twice in 5 years.

I use Aldi a lot. 1) Because they are very close to where I live and 2) Because they stock stuff I cannot get elsewhere.

However I dislike the way they throw the items at you and along with the card reader, almost tut impatiently as you pack.

My wife works in Aldi. She has been there about 8 years.

I asked her about this and she said that they do it but she doesn't take any notice of what she calls their stupid till speeds because she wants to chat with customers and some customers come to her till because they want to chat with her.

When she started there they had to work out change in their heads as there was no calculator on the tills. When they later installed one she had become so used to working it out in her head that it confused her.

They also had to remember the code numbers for every item, but they don't do that any more either.

She says they just employ anyone these days! ☺

Our dishwasher is used at least twice a day. Everyday virtually.

I did have the chance to notice......

To be perfectly honest, I only pop into ALDI's to have a look around, when the wife decides to take residence in the TKMAXX store nearby.
At the same time, I have time to visit Curry's , Sportsdirect, Pound Stretcher, Boot's and Sainsbury's...........

I understand that Aldi is spending loads of money in rebuilding their sites, but to me, even in the new builds, the wares on display for sale look very untidily thrown in piles, worse than the old KwikSave used to be. .
And the much advertised, award winning, wine selection leaves me cold, as, may only 2 reds and a white, may tempt me for a purchase., at any one time.

I heard that both Aldi and Lidl were started by two brothers. Aldi was first and they fell out so one of them started Lidl.
It could be just "drivers' gossip" though.
I always have the feeling that I am being rushed when I am paying at the checkout as the cashiers are always so impatient due to the pressure of management rules. I take my time as I am paying them for things - they are not paying me!

Aldi and Lidl are both owned by Germans but their owners are not related. Lidl’s origins trace back to Josef Schwarz who started in the grocery business in the 1930’s but opened the first Lidl store in 1973. Aldi was started by the Albrecht brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht on 10 July 1946 and used to be called Albrecht Diskont. The brothers split in 1960 making two separate firms and in 1962 both agreed on changing their firms names to Aldi but their parent companies are called Aldi Nord based in Essen, Germany and Aldi Sud based in Mulheim, Germany and both use differently designed logos.
