We seem to get quite a few flies in the house during the summer when we leave the back door open to get a bit of air through the house. This obviously is getting on our nerves. So does anyone have any methods / ideas for keeping flies out of the house?
My late mother used to hang up a net curtain over the back door when she used to keep it open in the warmer weather. Though you have to pin it to the lower parts of the door frame to stop it blowing all over.
Fly paper seems to work, along with this electric fly swatter http://www.maplin.co.uk/electronic-fly-swatter-42813
A friend of mine got a firm net curtain that is taped to the door frame (top and sides only) but the middle part has a magnetic opening. So every time you go out or in, you just go through that middle opening and it will automatically close without any hustle. Was very impressed by it. Very simple idea but very effective. Am trying to find out now where she got it but she is not in. As soon as I find out where she got it, I will post it.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. After a bit of research last night I've found string curtain which I think are the new version of beaded curtains favoured in the eighties I seem to remember. Any way found some that the wife likes from John Lewis so got them ordered. Thanks for the ideas anyway folks.
I have quite an "old school" solution. I've always been a huge fan of beaded curtains and we have them everywhere in our new flat! My husband took some time to get used to them but he knows that I wouldn't change my mind about it
