Thanks - I've signed up and passed it on 52,505 now. Maybe we should encourage all visitors to sign it too...
Looks like this Petition has now closed, as the link just leads to a statement from a couple of Tories... am I missing something? Update: Tried the link again and the Petition opened... Signed
As an aside, there is 1 part (at least - I haven't read EVERY word!) of this 'plan' I do agree with - Those coming here for work (skilled or not)/study, should not have the right to bring family members... I'm sure there are others on here whose 'asawa' was an OFW and they didn't take family members with them to wherever... What do others think?
i have a " vested interest" in this. A year ago my wifes sister and brother got work visas as care workers for 3 years. They are right now in the process of bringing their spouses and 4 kids over..they got the visas before christmas. They seriously think they will get their working visas renewed in 2 years time. They have nice homes back in the Philis. Their kids will need to be in schools. As they have been sharing a 2 bed rented flat they will need to find suitable accommodation urgently when they get here later this month. I think its all a poorly thought out mess. The streets are not paved with gold--just dogshit.
I think the same rules should apply to them as apply to us, i.e. If they are earning £29,000 or £38,700 and can support their families fair enough, if not then no.
The only part of that article worth reading is the final sentence: “It is unclear why the UK government believes that spouses are a burden for the UK? Those on a spouse visa already have no recourse to public funds, pay an annual NHS surcharge and have the best possible support – a spouse – when adjusting to life in the UK.”
gov going for the easy low hanging fruit. Gov pledges to bring net ummigration down. Total fiasco. Instead of being tough on all the rubber dinghy tourists , the gov goes after the legal spouse / family sponsors--causing anguish and misery for all those UK VOTERS who would pay in ££££ thousands on visa fees and IHS surcharges. Makes sense dunnit.

Surprised the sun is running the story. Old news in terms of couples being separated and home office screwing as much as possible out of brits trying to bring spouse to UK. Not sure if this signals move in the press away from the historic position followed by government caving to bad press in run up to election. Tons of these stories and nothing new about the costs and people being crippled by the costs. Its a money tree and government wants to make as much as possible. Only downside for government is its brits effected and they have votes in what is looking like a difficult election for the Tories.
Most of these tightened regulations and increasing costs can be put down to the past cheating (and attempts at) by certain UK immigrant communities anyway. 'Marriages of convenience', fake passports, sharing of IDs and other documents, fake landlord /tenant agreements, etc. In other words, the piss being taken out of the host country. It has since just been easier to paint everyone (visa applicants) with the same brush. Apologs if this goes against the delicate, apathetic Brits and their diversity daydream of the present day lost UK. When people keep bending over for minority whining and bullying...this is what you get.
Not to mention our (a)pathetic government taking 'the path of least resistance'/easy way out by penalising everyone to satisfy the xenophobic element... Much the same as their 'pie in the sky' (if last Thursday's results are anything to go by) proposals for reform of the PIP/Welfare system - target those most in need whilst turning a blind/apathetic eye to massive levels of tax fraud!
