Four people have been shot dead in another US mass shooting - as the National Rifle Association held a press conference urging MORE gun ownership.

Two men and a woman were killed and the suspected gunman also died while three police officers were injured in the horror this morning in Pennsylvania.

Sources reportedly told CBS that the suspect was on a rural road in the Altoona area, 70 miles west of Harrisburg, shooting randomly.

The shooting scene "extended over several miles", according to police.

They said one officer was struck by gunfire but escaped serious injury because the bullet hit his bulletproof vest.

Two other troopers were injured in the incident - one by shattered glass and another in a crash involving the gunman.

The identities of the suspected gunman and his three victims weren't immediately released.

Coincidentally, the NRA was holding a press conference to finally break its silence on the Newtown shootings a week on from the slaughter.

I don't necessarily think that guns di per se, are dangerous it is the feeling of power and invincibility that they seem to pass on to the weak minded moron that uses them, that is dangerous.

If anyone wanting to purchasea gun, was given a few months of compulsory psychiatric evaluations, with passes or fails at the end, then there wouldn't be a lot of this **** happening... Methinks....:erm:

Nothing wrong with gun ownership, people are killed by all sorts of weird things..

People need to be brought up with responsibility for their actions.

It really is a way of life out there - gun culture. Its difficult to see how it might change. Though I tend to believe that the more guns swishing around in the public domain, the more likely they are to be used. Like I said, they have them for sale in the supermarkets over there.

Yeah they usually take full responsibility by taking their own lives after a massacre with semi automatic weapons.

Doesn't the alarm bells ring when a young man enters the gun shops to buy an 'automatic assault rifle' to go shoot some bears ??

Without guns there would be no decent American movies. :)

    One of my favourite scenes:

    Stallone in the movie "Cobra"

    No Problem.

Bears are cuddly, I had one once (when I was very young).

You should report this immediately to your local police, or to: http://www.rspca.org.uk/home :like:

    They will help you!

Puzzles me why they don't make Gun Owenershipas strict as in Germany ( and the Rest of Europe )
Contrary to what people believe it is very muich possible topossess a Pistol, Revolver
    or Rifle.
( but the latter only for hunting of course, I leave that out here )

One goes to a Police Station and fills out the form, then
Bring attest of Psychologist/ Doctor. (Free of Charge mostly )
Bring Documents of Firearm handling training/seminar, not older than one Year. ( about ~1000 Euro or Gunclub membership )
State good Reason why you want / need a weapon. ( That's where 90% of candidates fail )
    Proof safe storage.
Buy Weapon and aquire certificate of Possession ( 100 euro plus the Weapon costs)
Now one posseses a weapon for the house, but isn't yet allowed to carry it around.
To carry it around, one must have very very good reasons and one needs another additional license.
Almost impossible to get, its easier to simply ask the Police to provide a 24 hr. Security details ( Which they do before they allow one to "pack" )

So... in the end its only a few (Elite)Hunters which have Rifles and Sidearms. And exactly those caused some of the horrible school incidents in Germany.
Aside from illegal firearms, and they get more and more , but thats another Topic.
