Aged 14 I did something I am ashamed of to this day, I got into a long conversation with a Jehovah Witness gentleman at the front door of our home, I used reason and logic to prove how wrong he was by introducing him to idea's and theological arguments that had never occurred to him, heavy duty science and philosophy but I think he had a problem with this being delivered from a lad who was in essence a child.

He left his faith and reports from locals who knew him said he went downhill quite fast, this was very close to my conversations with him, those conversations happened over a several evenings and his personal issues surfaced within a month or so.

I have lived with the guilt that I broke that man's framework, albeit innocently as an intellectually interested child, however what I did was wrong, just the same way that the born again's are wrong and anyone who forcibly preaches their one true belief is wrong.

Science has practical answers to the 'how' questions but has little to say on 'why', preachers have all the answers to why but most of them are clearly preaching from a self interest viewpoint, 'why' is ultimately the truly hard question and people should be allowed to find their own 'why' but not through any application of force either physical or argumentative.

Sorry to get so serious and I'm not getting at you in any way John, your post just brought out these memories in me and I felt I should post, I know you were being lighthearted.

    Exactly.

As a footnote to this, I know some people here that run a christian charity. I wont go into detail except to say that one of their missions is to bridge the gaps between the christian denominations / foster good relations between each of them. I understand it works well here. Anyway, they have been most helpful.

I am guessing that 'conversions' was just a keyboard slip?
