Hi again! My philippine passport will expire in november... My husband said that will leave it for awhile as we don't have any plans of travelling soon and travelling to London to apply for a new passport is hassle as we both working weekdays plus we have 2 kids. My question is am I allowed to continue working even my passport is expired? Hubby said he thinks is fine bec. I have ILR anyway. But I think I need the passport too to work...

what do you reckon mga ate and kuya?

    Chryss :)

Technically no problem. your ILR is just that .....Indefinite
But to keep all risks to a minimum my own thinking is to always have valid travel documents. I do understand that emergency travel documents can be secured but these processes do not always run smooth enough.
It's not something to impact a life in UK, but if there's another life outside of UK then it's a personal choice.
    Do you have a BRP??

I also would renew it; it is a good form of photo ID

Doesnt it need renewing(automaticly) after ten years?

I also thought you could loose it if your gone from te UK for over two years:like:

There's no legal or other mandatory requirement to either hold a valid passport or to renew an expired one.
Many folks allow their passports to expire for one reason or another. My father allowed his passport to expire for 10 years as he thought he wouldn't need it again.
He had no problems securing another.
My wife hasn't held a Philippine passport since it expired many years ago. As a Philippine citizen she's free to secure another one at any time.

Concerning the ILR, yes quite correct it's indefinite upon condition that the holder does not leave UK for a period of absence 2 years or more.
The Home Office is actually very strict about that.
Many folks have fallen foul of that one. Especially if one spouse decides to return to UK for say medical reasons. If the other spouse has been away from UK for 2 years or more and does not hold British Citizenship then that spouse must apply for a spouse visa for entry leading to settlement. Often not a possibility.
    Very sad.
I always strongly suggest to secure British Citizenship at the earliest opportunity. So many reasons and benefits......still.

I am interested to hear others on this too.. Joy will need to renew her passport before we renew her visa within the next two years and I am of the opinion that plenty of time needs to be given for any government office – Philippine or British – they’re each as slow as each other!

But I am only recalling some stories from the last few years, things could have been improved recently. Timescales might be better nowadays.

BTW Chryss, nice to see you back ;)

I thought you were considering having your son registered as a British Citizen ?? If granted he would be eligible for a British Passport, or perhaps you have reasons that he will have both .....
Anyway I think you've made a sensible decision to renew.:like:

yeah, he'll have both... though he wish to be british citizen he is still proud being Pinoy. the reason he wants to be british is because he wants to be a goal keeper of England football team, lolz! you know how kids mind works nowadays :) he is Filipino by blood and British by heart ;)

Phil Younghusband would fit the bill but I doubt he'd want to leave his present club - the fans are much prettier than British!
