hello mga kuya at ate!!! i'm a newbie here! oooppps.. not really, lolz!

was thinking if I could apply my son for citizenship but not myself... I'm ok for ILR right now (as too expensive to apply for us both anyway) but my son wish to be a british citizen and that's all he wants for christmas.. well he's only 9yrs. old.

hope I'm still welcome here! ;)

What a rowdy looking bunch! :D

I don't think there is a tie on the date for application for citizenship. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

My wife's citizenship is potentially only a year away but my thinking is that she can apply anytime after the 3 years have elapsed.

we can apply anytime now as we've been here for 4 years and half... we supposed to apply last year but buying a new house and spending christmas last year in the Philippines we decided not to... Since the cost for applying naturalisation is getting higher. Was thinking maybe I will just apply for my son's citizenship but not mine. Plus i don't think he will need English test as he's studying here and he can't even speak tagalog now :)

Well, I would hope not, but you never know with the UKBA LOL....

I notice that the Life in the UK test requirement is exempt for those under 18. Presumably the same for the English Language Test?

    Hi Chryss,

To go through the standard naturalisation process all applicants must be over 18 years.

Children under 18 can apply for registration as British Citizens by entitlement or Home Office discretion.
Once they reach the age of 18 then they must then apply for British citizenship all over again as adults.

I have no information about your personal circumstances so advise that you review this UKBA webpage called Can I register a child aged under 18 as a British citizen?

Here's more information about How do I register a child aged under 18 as a British citizen?

Here's the application form MN1 and here's the Guide for MN1

Checking out the latest UKBA Fees here you'll see the Registration for a minor is £673

If my assumption is correct, based on the information you've divulged, then your son will be eligible to apply for registration under the British Nationality Act 1981 - section 3-(5b) which states:-

Hope you'll find this helpful in pointing you in the right direction.......good luck !!

I've never known any problems with these registrations...but please do read ALL the links to be sure of the specific eligibility.
