5 or 6 rolls? I thought I used a lot of tape (two rolls on a 'medium' box). When I sent a PC I wrapped it it bubble wrap, then some towels and lined the box with expanded polystyrene. Expanded polystyrene is pretty expensive stuff too!
yeah we are in Suffolk, but can't find Sudbury Suffolk on fb,lolz! so just use Sudbury Norfolk well, actually I'm still waiting for someone to collect my box.. the first time I used them they picked my box at 3am.. which was fine coz I got a call and they let me know that they will pick it up... but now no calls from the driver, which is frustrating bec you don't know if you are waiting for nothing again. i used to have their driver's number but gone when i changed my cellphone.
I used B N lilley as they were recommended on here & they were fine..dropped boxes off when they said they would then picked up as per appointment and delivered intact & with nothing broken ( i had sent some glass ítems well packed)total time was 9 weeks from pick up to delivery in dasmariñas. their no. is...01905 756118
we got a box (flat pack) from Lilleys the problem is what to put in it at 100-130 to send it what do you guys send?
We sent this sort of stuff: Used ipod but good condition IPod docking station. Used. Used Samsung mobile phone. Used baby clothes and toys. Wifes old jeans as she has put on some weight since arriving. Pair of wifes Tom shoes - too big for her but nearly new. Chocolate. My wife insisted. A lot of themed Union Jacked items.eg t shirts, golf hats Baby bouncer - used. Baby mat - used. Etc Nothing expensive.
We put loads of stuff in and to be honest I don't take notice of the value declared part. The paperwork is "adapted" to suit the size of box. We sent a load of older kitchen stuff for our house in the province last year. Basically we send stuff out that we replaced in the uk that'll make our life a bit easier out here. That's for us but stuff for the family is generally clothes, old stuff of the wife's, stuff brought in sales etc. Plus as John says quite a lot of stuff with union jacks on, just to piss off and yanks that are in the province! ha You're really only limited by your imagination and how well you can protect things in the boxes. Oh yes we send large tubs of coffee out as well as the family cant really afford it and its a bit of a treat for them
Micawber said, always check the volume don't rely on the name of the box, maybe 'jumbo', 'large' 'special' etc. Apologies to those who know, but the volume is the space inside the box, the bigger the space the more you can get into it. To check what that is one needs to multiply the length, by the height by the width. So a box 100 cms high, 50 cms wide by 40 cms long is: 100 X 50 X 40 = 200,000 So has a volume of 200,000 cubic cms or 200 litres
How much is that in gallons? I like capacity.... I bought a couple of holdalls (kit bags) a few months ago. The size was listed in litres. Not a unit that I am comfortable with for that purpose. Our box was listed as so by LBC.... Jumbo sized. 30"x22"x20"
JohnAsh I am astounded. I have never heard of anyone using gallons to describe volume. But as Keith said, 200,000 cubic cms = 200 litres = 44 gallon = 7 cubic feet.
Me neither but litres is a bit alien to me. Cc, cubic metres are both okay. I just dont like litres. I am happiest in imperial units.
I was jesting. I didnt need to know. I have been working in both imperial and metric units all my working life. Not only that but also American units which are often different to UK imperial units e.g. the US gallon is not the same volume of liquid as the UK gallon.
According to LBC our box is due into Manila on 31st October, some 5 weeks or so after we handed it to the LBC collector. We have sent my wife's sister the track and trace number. She has a pal that works for LBC in Manila, so hopefully, if it hasnt been plundered already, it will reach its destination in one piece.
I used this firm. Not a single problem with anything sent over 5 years. None insured. Our House contents - minus the things left for tenant - inclucing 2 desks & Lloyd's leather suite were delivered without a hitch. Insured these through Brian Lilley @ cost to him. Very fair and sighted Brokers Quote and receipt. His "sum's" need double checking if nonStandard itens are shipped though but reliability is more important for me... The other thing to do is find a local Pinoy community and ask their advice.! Good luck.! The collecting driver said some boxes are full of tinned ham/beef Etc HEAVY. A great system & GREAT to fly under the Customs Radar. ;-) Tom
Checking with track and trace it is a little behind schedule and the new ETA in Manila is 6th November.
Finally arrived at my wifes home in Dasmarinas almost 2 months after it left here. It was intact and in good condition. And the chocolate survived the journey.
I spoke to B&N Lilley the other day and the box they picked up on the 10th October is due in Olongapo the last week in November. I believe the next shipment from when they picked up the boxes was 2 week after. So it should be a 6 week ish transit.
