Where did I read last night ?...somewhere it states on the Philippines government sites that even though a former Citizen has taken an oath for citizenship of another country , that person can still be recognized as a Filipino citizen ??

If the wife wants dual Citizenship, she has to reaffirm and take the oath at the Philippine Embassy. This is what I was told by the Philippine Embassy in London.
If she doesn't want dual Citizenship, when she goes to the Philippines, she will be granted a year visa on her British passport as she is originally from the Philippines but she is no longer considered as Filipino Citizen and she will lose her rights to own a property as well, unless she is dual passport holder.

Did I read it correctly ? I will have to go search my browser history and see.
Or,.... could she take her oath over in Philippines ??? ( we only have the confirmation that her application was successful, she hasn't taken the oath yet ) It does say that you have 90 days to take your oath after you get your invitation (which is coming in the next 2 weeks )

    On my Citizenship invitation it is written as;

    CITIZENSHIP INVITATION
    APPLICATION FOR BRITISH CITIZENSHIP BY
    (YOUR NAME & BIRTH DATE)

I am pleased to tell you that this application for British Citizenship has been approved. To complete the process of becoming a British citizen, you will need to attend a citizenship ceremony ot receive your certificate. In the ceremony you will take an Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance to the Crown and Pledge of loyalty to the United Kingdom. This is a normal promise to Her Majesty the Queen and the United Kingdom.

    What you must do now
    1. The ceremony will be arranged by the Local Authority whose details are shown below. Please contact the authority using these details within 21 days of the date of this letter to book your ceremony. Please note that documentation may take up to 2 working days to arrive.

The Citizenship Ceremonies Officer (Your borough)
    Their address
    Their contact number

    2. The personal details below will appear on the certificate. If the details in your certificate are incorrect you should still arrange a ceremony, and return the certificate to us for amendment afterwards. You should also send a copy of your passport or birth certificate as evidence of the correct details.

    Certificate details
    Full name:
    Name at birth:
    Date of birth:
    Place of birth:

    The ceremony

Please read the enclosed guidance notes as soon as possible. These give important information about the ceremony and the words you need to say for the Oath/Affirmation and the Pledge.
Please note that once you become a British citizen you will lose any refugee status you may hold in the United Kingdom.

You must bring this invitation to the ceremony, if you do not your ceremony will be postponed. The registrar may request evidence of identity including a photograph.

Now, if you are prepared to pay £100 then they will give you a special service on the earliest they have availability. But if you want it for free they are the one who will book you for an appointment.

So what began as a great feeling that my wife is now a UK citizen has now turned our plans upside-down !!
We already had our flights booked to go over to Cebu for 3 months,...now it looks as if my wife has no means of identification to go now. I read that as she has now taken her oath, she no longer holds a valid Philippines passport and its too late now to get a UK passport as our flights are booked for 4 weeks time !!
Not everything that looks sweet is tasty !!
Think we will just have to cancel the flights and forget the holiday ??

Just another thought 'clutch at straws',.... would she be able to use her Phils passport to leave the UK only and apply for a UK passport when we are over in Phils ??

Thanks Mystica,....I did think that when you took your oath ceremony to regain your Philippine citizenship you automatically had to surrender your Filipino passport and buy a new one ??
Are you saying thay may let her keep it and use it to travel out to Cebu ??

It took me a while to find her email to me as it's been almost a year and that is pretty much an official confirmation of losing our right using our Philippine passport after taking the oath, because it came from the Philippine Embassy consulate! Of course having been informed about it! And my passport is still not cancelled, some stupid people advised me I can still use it! :frust:

I wouldn't want anyone to experience the same thing! If people are saying they can still use it! go ahead and make your day! :like:

Exactly! To apply for the first adult passport it will fall between 2 to 4 weeks maximum to be honest and after the interview she will get her passport within 48 hours! Let her think over of getting a dual nationality. This is only useful is you guys are intending to settle and buy properties in the Philippines. Then Filipino citizen is a must! Otherwise, stick to British citizenship.

hi, my british citizenship was approved 2003 and got my british passport the same year but i still have my filipino passport and still valid. not knowing the rules once you have british citizenship. Me and my hubby went to cebu every year using my filipino passport and even showing my indefinite visa stamp to the officer to save money on travel tax. I have been using my old filipino passport since until my little boy arrived and we went to philippine embassy to apply for dual citizenship for me and for my little one and of course i renew my filipino passport. The filipino lady told me that even though you renew your passport but you do not have dual citizen, your passport is invalid but i already went to cebu a lot of time with my old passport.

For the time being, if you can get a refund on the flights, I would cancel the holday and concentrate on getting the correct documentation. If no refund available, then it should be possible for you to postpone the flights, even if at a small charge.

But normally, the time scale for getting a first passport is around 2/3 weeks.

Yes. Seems there are always exceptions and loopholes to rules, especially in the Philippines. :D

Its not really a loophole , just a bureaucratic void:like:

I have been told also from the philippine embassy that once you have a child. You have to register the child asap to the philippine embassy to avoid penalties or more money to their pots.
