My husband and I get a 50-50 chance every year to spend special occasions together so we sort of splurge when we get to spend it.

This year, we will be in London for his birthday and was wondering if you have any nice suggestions of where to eat?

We have already tried Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, Petrus and OXO Tower. Was eyeing Le Gavrouche but they are already fully booked.

My mate thinks Knights bridge. ....The Berkeley, No 5 Maddock street, The connaught or claridges.

I trust his judgement, his food is some of the best I've eaten

The Berkeley is good, a friend of ours got married there last year and the food was superb.

Claridges is always a top option but was never really in my radar, will look into that and see if we can get a table.

    Thanks for the tip!

Be interested to see where you go and your impressions. Before he had trouble with the landlord my mate had the Michelin people in. They arranged for a second visit to see if he'd sorted out a few pointers from their first visit, minor stuff like the tableware etc. Unfortunately my mate was turfed out of his place by the landlord before they came back. Nasty business and a lesson never rent a building off a fellow restaurant owner when your restaurant is sooooo much better than the toss he knocks out!!

That's a shame, where does your mate work for now? Maybe I can try that restaurant. Will be in London for over a month in less than two weeks time.

I'm not sure to be honest, he's playing his cards close to his chest. Mainly I think because he will be involved in a TV show in September if all things go well. He was going going to be the TV show "great British menu" I think it was late last year but it fell through. He really is an exceptional, his basil ice cream is amazing. As soon as I know where he's at ill let you know.

That's awesome, do let me know :)

I'm having a hard time getting a table as of the moment but then Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester has a table on our preferred date and time (weekday lunch!!!) so will prolly go for that.

    On a lighter note............

In North End Road, in Fulham, there is a small Pinoy store, where the ladies, do provide a nice little inexpensive lunch or dinner. Nothing pretentious but simple and wholesome freshly cooked filipino food........... For a fiver or less, I believe..........

A Pinoy eat all you can buffet, is situated just off Earl's Court Road, In Kenway Road to be precise.
