This is shocking, sad and I wish justice would be done, but we all know it won't...

A Filipino maid has been left covered in burns after her Saudi boss's mother allegedly threw boiling water at her as punishment for not making coffee quick enough.

    Warning: shocking images.

Not seen that particular case before but seen reports of Filipinas being treated like crap from middle-eastern employers, both here in the UK (refusing to return passports etc) and in the middle east itself. I recall one time where the Philippine government had to repatriate some of their citizens from Saudi.

Saw reports when I worked in Saudi. I would never want to return there to work and feel sorry for anyone that has to. Saudi's generally treat others quite badly. There was reports off a filipina maid who'd been beaten on numerous occasions by her employer. She'd gone to a shelter but the employer turned up with her passport promising a flight home. She was never seen again, the police couldn't find the employer as he had his phone turned off!! Great detective work!

In the early days of my relationship with Joy, she said she wanted to work in the middle east for a year or so before we settled down.

That is probably the only time I put my foot down and told her I wasn't happy with that idea. We discussed this story last night and I told her it was due to stories like this why I was so against her going to the middle east back in 2009.

    I made the right call...

Filipinos are generally at risk when working in the middle east especially women. They are abused in so many way and levels that a lot of them come home shocked and traumatized.

I absolutely abhor the treatment some of these Filipinas receive whilst working as house maids in the Middle East, we have heard all too many times about this kind of maltreatment. I read some time ago that the Philippine government was trying to ban Filipinos from going overseas to do this kind of work but alas I cannot see them succeeding as long as there is a willing supply of Filipinas wanting to take the risk to better their financial situation for their families. People in the Middle East do not afford the same respect to Filipinos as they do westerners they are somehow seen as second class citizens which is totally wrong. Filipinas are seen as easy and are often approached with unwanted offers of dates and so on. My girlfriend was often asked for dates even by taxi drivers in Dubai, something which wouldn't have happened if she was an English girl for example. She was even asked for a date once when she visited the doctor, something that riled me up as that is about as unprofessional as you can get and would have resulted in the dismissal of the doctor if that had happened in the UK.

As Kuya said, there is little or no chance that the perpetrator will be brought to book, just shocking it really is, it makes my blood boil.

As long as Filipinos working in Saudi continue to send remittances back to the Philippines, there's little incentive for the government to ban OFWs to that country. The government gets foreign currency on the cheap from OFWs! But it's not that long ago that Filipinos there were sacked by their employers, driven out of their accommodation and made to live in tents with the Saudis requiring them to leave the country within days or face imprisonment. That gave the Philippine Embassy in Ryadh a major headache as many of the employers had refused to return their employees' Passports plus the government had to charter a couple of 747s from PAL to bring its citizens home.

As far as I can gather, no one is safe in Saudi.
The indigenous population, in my opinion, is one the most xenophobic on earth.

My wife's sister and her friends have worked in Saudi as maids/helpers for over three years, and no complaints, have vacations paid, flights back to the Philippines. Please don't tar everyone with the same brush. Good and bad in every country especially UK

Three of my colleagues returned from Saudi only a few days ago after completing a job there, none of which had a good word to say about the place. Thankfully Saudi is one of the few countries in the Middle East I haven't worked in but from what I've been told Dom's opinion is shared by many I have talked to.
