I haven't witnessed any signs that we over use acronyms here at British Filipino, the ones that are frequently used are generally all related to immigration, FLR, ILR and CFO for example, all of which your average visa seeker will pick up quickly and see on a regular basis.
I actually hate using acronyms. But if you're living in the Philippines and in conversation with the younger generation, you will have to know some of them. I know, it's annoying.
I've yet to hear anyone using those in spoken conversation to be frank, apart from the two ronnies. This form of thing is usually reserved for cellphone text messages isn't it?
Most of them yes, are reserved for SMS. But some are used in actual conversation. KSP, Eyeball, LQ, LSS, and many more for example in regards to the latter. There's a 'social group' in the Philippines called conios, which are you typical rich kids who like to mix English and Tagalog. They're fond of acronyms. Then on the opposite end of the spectrum, you have the jejemons and pabebe girls who are also fond of them too. Think of the conios as your Posh British. Your jejemons and pabebe girls as your Chavs. You'll get the idea.

As soon as I started reading this I immediately thought of the great Two Ronnies sketch FUNEX and then saw the other references to it. For those of you who don't have a clue and for those like me who don't mind watching it over, here's my little treat for you. Hope this doesn't cause anger/annoyance to anyone of course. Just meant to raise a few smiles/chuckles.
