That thing is so big and so massive that it is expected to slide down the gravitational gradient that is created by Antarctica, the continent is so vast that water is pulled towards it and sea level is higher there around the coast than it is in the ocean further from the continent, a mass like this will slide down that gradient into the ocean grinding away the seabed until it hits open deep water, it is possible that it will get hung up on some undersea features but the berg is so massive that this may be unlikely.

The real issue is that a lot of this ice will have been in compression from all directions behind it and the ice was taking up the stress of the glaciers behind it, sea ice which this mostly is will not make much difference to sea levels but once the glaciers behind it are released, because the load on the remaining shelf is now even greater, you will eventually get land based ice hitting the ocean and that will increase sea levels potentially catastrophically.

I can see them having to move the Halley VI base again pretty quickly.

Why is everything scaled to the size of Wales? Is there no other country in the world that can be used for size comparison?:D

Nah it was whatever you were driving or whatever you and your family used to heat your home back in the 1980s or earlier, you and me will be long gone by the time my car and your incinerator have done their bit.

That picture reminds me of a business idea that I had about two years ago..
    A green gym..
Imagine for a minute 50 exercise bikes ..
On them, 50 health nutters, grunting and groaning, sweating and moaning and generating power to around 30 X 200 AH solar batteries..
These are hooked up to my bar next door.. When they are finished, they can come in and join us for a reasonably priced cold one!!
    Brilliant eh?

As you know Rob being a fellow Welshman, it's not the amount of heart in the country its the amount of country in the heart. No country compares then!
