As if this government haven't broken enough manifesto pledges already, David Davies is to rip-up another one: that to stop paying benefits to EU migrants.

I personally think that benefits should be stopped for EU citizens inside the UK but what happens to the benefits of those British expats in Spain lets say?

There is of course the possibility that many of the marchers wished to place bunches of flowers and light candles in remembrance too. Mourners, concerned citizens and policemen come from all sides of the political spectrum.

We are in danger of creating a divided Britain if we cannot accept that having a differing point of view makes one no less patriotic. The demonisation and ridicule of the other side has to stop. We do, last time I checked, live in a democracy.

Here in Malta you need to be registered for tax and pay national insurance contributions if you want to claim any state benefits. My wife can claim sickness benefit, I can't and we could also claim Child Benefit but we choose not to for various reasons. We may claim Child Benefit from the UK, however, since I have been a tax payer since 1968 - that possibility was pointed-out to me by the DWP's International Pensions Centre.

I agree that there was always the possibility that some marchers would wish to add their tribute but I'm reliably informed that the demonstrators were bearing banners, not bouquets.
If by "patriotic" you're referring to patriotism to one's country then such an emotion is not one that would be foremost to many/most of those who demonstrated yesterday. They would probably subscribe to Juncker and Tusk doctrine that one should be patriotic to the EU - we are Europeans, not British, French or Spanish. The Eurocracy is moving to remove all traces of national identity in the formation of the US of E.

Potentially bad news for Scotland. In Rome yesterday, Juncker told a German newspaper that there will be no further EU expansion, no new members will be added, the number of member nations will be frozen at 27 and instead the bloc will consolidate.

I have not heard anything about the EU not accepting any new members, if it is indeed the case this will have surely thrown a spanner in the works for Sturgeon. An interesting one and it does make sense.
