Ipanema is the beach next to Copacabana.
If you ever get a chance to walk on either of those beaches, "Girl from Ipanema" will be in your mind. The tangas (bikini bottoms) of the local beauties and the amazing beach footballers will really give you a good feeling of that amazing country.

It's a shame that you don't understand how important Astrud Gilberto was and how influential "Girl from Ipanema" was, and still is, around the world. This song is probably one of the most romantic songs sung by anyone, ever :D People don't even need to know anything about Brazil to enjoy the song. from Wiki: "It is believed to be the second most recorded pop song in history, after "Yesterday" by The Beatles."

As a person who has recently started to travel to more countries, I would have thought you would be interested in Brazil, obviously not from your comment "Who Cares"
I enjoyed your recent posts about your travels with your wife; we can all learn from each others' travel experiences, after all travel is supposed to broaden our minds. :like:

Play the song for your wife one night, I have never known a woman who doesn't adore this song. :D

How do you know I have started to travel to more countries, than when?
Yes travel broadens the mind but it is often the quality of the travel that harnesses the knowledge?

That premise is so wrong; Quality is not the overiding bonus in travel. Some of the most entertaining experiences people have is in countries where "quality" is in short supply
I travelled so much that most of my dreams are in a myriad of villages, towns, cities and countries, so my mind is the complete opposite of the comment you made. My dreams are vivid and varied and I even speak in different languages when in slumber :D

You travel on aircraft often the quality of that experience is not of the same quality as experience in the locality.
You travel for and whilst working often that quality is short of the leisure experience.

If we forget the boring hours sitting in metal tubes, most of the experiences we have are when we are on terra firma. That is when most things happen, whether good or bad, it's all part of life's rich tapestry.
Working abroad was equally as exciting as when on holiday, and often far more exciting. Coming back to the UK has been much less interesting for me. The people I met when overseas were mostly engaging and conversations were often enlightening and unpredictable.
As a driver, the same as you (if you are still doing it), I found most drivers were depressive and full of self-aggrandisement. Also, a lot of drivers showed racist tendencies, so much so that I often used to whip my phone out and pretend that I had an incoming call.
I was so glad to move on. It served it's purpose but I cannot remember many uplifting experiences.
If you ever worked abroad, you will understand how exciting it can be.
Being stuck in distribution centres' waiting rooms was not my idea of fun but reversing onto bays was always interesting.

You forget the ones who want to tell you every pallet they have delivered over the last month.
Those that were on the balcony!
Those that missed the zeebrugge boat cos they had a blow out on the way in
Those who only do the job to top up their SAS pension.
Yes I am doing what I have been doing for a while now but I don’t frequent driver waiting rooms

The girl who inspired the song, when she was 17...

Obviously went for the Essex girl look at some point... which reminds me:

Thanks for the info, John. What an amazing woman!
I'm not surprised that Mr. Jobim composed the song about her...
She is now 76 y.o. and in amazing shape and her daughter has the same beauty.:

    Another interesting anecdote:

In 2001, the song's copyright owners (the heirs of their composer fathers) sued Pinheiro for using the title of the song as the name of her boutique (Garota de Ipanema). In their complaint, they stated that her status as The Girl from Ipanema (Garota de Ipanema) did not entitle her to use a name that legally belonged to them.

Public support was strongly in favor of Pinheiro. A press release by Jobim and Moraes, the composers, in which they had named Pinheiro as the real Girl from Ipanema (Garota de Ipanema) was used as evidence that they had intended to bestow this title on her. The court ruled in favor of Pinheiro.
