Clearly, the problem is that the organisers aren't too bothered with just making back their costs, they also want to make a profit!

Events have to get permission from the local council in order to go ahead, for that to happen a few boxes need to get ticked off such as qualified first aid personel in case of emergencies. You can hire a small team of paramedics for what used to be a few hundred (not sure of todays prices). Then security is required.. A few friends in the security industry who have the relevant badges and fancy a bit of overtime would come in handy there, or you could hire some qualified security personel for a temporary basis but they will want at least £10 per hour each..

Then of course the space does not come for free! The council themselves would have their own prices to cover their end. But really, it would not cost several grand or anywhere near that for a smaller Barrio Fiesta than the one in Hounslow if it were to be properly organised.

:D Not right now. Got too much on my plate at the minute. Though it is a shame that one of the local Pinoy businesses don't do it.

I was near there not long ago... Holker Flower Festival... Seen a few Pinays there, and although they smiled when I said something in Klingon, they never stopped for chika-chika...:(

Oh, well.......... I am used to rejection... not that they were going to spend any money on my wine....:erm:

Doesn't everyone find it so annoying that when you come across another filipino/a they many a time treat you like a leper and pretend they haven't seen you. What's that all about?!?

    Strange but true..............:erm:

They also seem to ignore each other in good style.... Eyes to the ground and body language saying "don't you dare talk to me"... kind of thing....:erm:

It must be part of the inbred crab mentality they all seem to suffer from...:(

The strangest part is that it leads to so many silly spats...
Newbies to the UK face an uphill struggle against gale force winds to search for that friendly soul to help make life a little more bearable in this sometime inhospitable country, and then ignored out of hand, the ignorers forgetting themselves that they were in the same situation not long before....:erm:

    Go figure that one...:erm::(

Then, I don't know if anyone noticed, but our spouses are not seen in a great light by the migrants... They seem to think that married to kano is a bit of a betrayal...:der::der:

But it is all down to good old fashioned jealousy, really... Just resented because they perceive that our wives have a better and cushier life...
It may be true in some instances, but not in the majority of others...

Mind you, our wives don't generally help matters when they tart themselves up to the nines just to go to Church and be noticed....:erm:

    It'll pass eventually... I hope...:erm:

From our experience this seems only to be prevalent in UK.
We have only very very positive experiences in Japan, Germany, Italy and USA
Can't speak about other countries, but we now keep a very low profile due to the extreme UK crab mentality.

    Still can't figure out why:(

"kano" always makes me smile. Shouldn't we be "tisho"? Haha

I've found from speaking to filipinos about this attitude towards some filipina spouses that it is because in some cases the filipina is significantly younger than the "kano". While the migrant acknowledges that they both wanted to improve their lot in life they feel that while they have done it the hard way, studied, paid lots of Money to come over and worked hard, the spouse has basically sold herself to the "kano", dressing up sexily to woo him. That it's not a question of love but financial gain and security. Therefore, the migrant views the spouse as cheap and not to be respected.

Obviously, this could be true of any filipina/kano relationship, hence the suspicion but where there is a significant age difference then it is taken as a given that she's only done it for the money.

Me and my wife have suffered from this very same stigma over the years, although in our case not as bad as others because when we married we were 28 and 32 respectively (my wife being the older). So, in actual fact, mostly, fellow pinays just enquire curiously of my wife as to how we met!
