Ah, but we were amongst the first ... in 1972. Our cars fitted with all the extras too. (Don't forget the cig companies then thought they were the kings of the grocery reps... and Rothmans were the kings of the cig companies, with the poshest brands, like Dunhill and Consulate. :D )

We were also able to claim mags like Penthouse against (tax-free then) expenses.... because we had full page ads in them. lol
I also got into all the Rothmans sponsored events free of course, like my favourite motor sports ! :D

I can certainly remember the reg number of my first company car . It was JDT 640K .... a 1971/72 Hillman Avenger , with 57 miles on the clock when I picked it up. I was a trainee rep with Spillers foods then. I did another 32,000 miles in it, in the first year... then on to Rothmans. :)

I'll certainly tell you who isn't the best airline to the Philippines, and that's Saudi Arabian Airlines!

I don't care that they are a dry airline and I will turn a blind eye to human rights abuses in the Kingdom.

I booked flights about a week ago to travel Manchester-Manila via Jeddah on 12th May, returning 16th May.

Last night, the scum bags changed the schedule of the Manchester - Jeddah service by a cool 5 hours! At a push, I would have tolerated a 10 hour layover on the flights from Manila, but my outward connection was now impossible! Even if I would have accepted a 20 hour layover, I would not be allowed to transit longer than 12 hours without a Saudi visa.

I know better than anyone that schedule changes can occur. I could have put up with them delaying my flights by a day or so, but rendering a whole raft of East-West connections impossible less than 2 weeks before departure is pure amateur hour!

Oh well. Will have to book replacement flights pretty sharpish and wait for those shysters to give me my money back!

Reviews for Saudi are pretty bad. That always put me off sufficiently.

well--my mrs flew air china on the 23rd--stopover in beijing. said it was all ok--but the food was poor. only problem was--she had overloaded her luggage. allowance was 2 suitcases : 23kilos--and 2 hand luggage at 7 kilos. she was 10 kilos over all told. so--we had to unpack--and i ended up taking home spam, chocolates, bars of soap, various shower lotions all back home with me. never again.

see what the return is like.

    £375 return.

I have flown Saudi Airlines to the Philippines. Not my favourite airline. But have travelled on worse.

You know she is going to bring you a case of spam back from the Philippines as your "gift", right?

You should invest in a hand-held scales. btw 375 return is cheap. You can't blame Air China for your wife's luggage being 10 Kilos over. I've flown with them and the beer was cold, good enough.

trust me--weve got one of those scales--i weighed them--at home--each under 23kg. i'm sure she crammed more stuff in afterwards.. not blaming airline--at all. just the wife ! still--her lesson learnt.

Surely that was the TOTAL weight allowed for checked-in bags, not PER bag ? ;)

    Well spotted.
    https://www.airchina.us/US/GB/info/checked-baggage/international.html

Unless she was flying business class or was an elite card holder it seems that only one 23Kg case is normally allowed as check in baggage from UK to Manila.

@bigmac , what did it say on the ticket?

definitely 2 x 23 kg items in hold luggage--plus 2 x 7 kg items in carry on luggage. i was surprised too--and checked with the agents before hand. definitely says same on the ticket. no quibble at heathrow T2 checkin--except it was overweight.
