    Fair enough.

I was surprised when I flew out here to Quito a few weeks ago, my KLM economy ticket says 3 x 23 kg items as hold luggage, I get one of these due to my KLM gold card status, but don't understand why the allowance is three.

Shame I only travel with a single duffel bag weighing 15kg.

Think you'll find that it defines the type of baggage allowed ie it means you are entitled to 2 checked in bags, each one not more than 23kg, and 2 pieces carry on total 7kg. No mention of total baggage allowance.

to be honest I can't remember much about the food! I know the ticket was cheap enough and the layover was long two stops. Pay for what you get.

That's a generous amount! For 1 passenger! Am I missing something here!

Total allowance not stated so don't know whether its generous or not. Philippines Airline was the worst we ever encountered regards baggage allowance.

23kgs (max) seems to be the 'normal' checked-in baggage allowance for economy class now.

Etihad have just increased it to 30kgs... in line with Emirates.

Etihad also give an extra allowance above a certain level of loyalty card.

Just read the info given on their web sites.

Agreed Graham, 23kg is the standard baggage allowance, with some Gulf carriers offering 30kg. 7kg is always max cabin baggage.

I’m abit shorter around 5’7 but I find there a few inches from my knees to the back of the seat in front now on the Boeing 777 they started using last year, you might be able to get lucky and get a seat in a exit row.

Sometimes you can pay abit more to choose those exit row seats, but i find it depends where you book your tickets through because sometimes they will let you choose early, and some will only let you choose 24hours before when you check in online.

You can get a bulk head seat with loads of leg room but those seats also include basinetts which some people aren’t aware of. Well they looked surprised when they sat next to us with our then 1 and 2 year old :D

I'm late replying to your post David but KLM offer 12kg cabin baggage as standard with a 23kg hold baggage overall, while the likes of Emirates will offer 30 kg + 7kg and the 30kg can be split over multiple bags there is not actually that much difference in the total although Emirates wins by 2 kilo but loses if you have to put that weight in two hold bags as the weight of the second bag robs you of actual carrying ability.

Emirates have a single bag maximum of 32 kilo so on the 30 kilo limit two bags is less efficient than one.

At your height aisle seats are what you want in economy class but you will be constantly hassled by the stewards trolleys and people wanting to go to the loo.
