Some love it and some loathe it. But it is as popular as ever. And not a bad place to take your filipina wife too for a day trip, when the weather is good and you live up north anyway.

We had a couple of days there. And stumbled across Illuminasia. An indoor walkthrough of a variety of chinese designed illuminations in the Winter Gardens.

We went there for a night last year. Were planning to see The Script, but they pulled out and were replaced by Gary Barlow.

The concert was great, but thought Blackpool itself was dead tacky. We did get and old American West style photo done on the pier though.

"The world’s largest indoor illumination experience blends traditional Chinese lantern crafts with the latest in lighting technology, and boasts hundreds of incredible structures covering thousands of square feet, under-cover within the Olympia Exhibition Hall."

Yes. I think one has to take the rough with the smooth with Blackpool.

There were heaps of groups out today, mainly folk in there mid to late twenties having been enjoying a few drinks in the middle of the day.

We also saw the turning on of the illuminations, which was seriously underwhelming! I enjoyed it there but not sure I'd bother going again.

We went mainly because Mrs M loves The Script, and in they end they weren't even on. She loves Take That now, though, having seen Mr Barlow. So it certainly left its mark.

I have been to Blackpool many times. My ex wife used to collect me as arrived off the rigs there, after a tour of duty and if the weather was good, me, her and my son used to soend the rest of the day there.

I just turn a blind eye to the "bad" bits.

I am impressed with what they have done with the promenade. Obviously spent a lot of money on it.

I probably shouldn't admit this, but they've become a bit of a guilty pleasure for me too since. And we're off to see Robbie Williams soon too.

    Shhhh. Don't tell anyone. :)

Both great artists in my opinion.

One thing that was great there was going down to the beach with my 10 year old son at about 7am. That was special as the place was practically deserted.

Blackpool has been blessed with sandy beaches that stretch for miles. As someone who lives on the promenade in Douglas, Isle of Man, am envious of what they have done in Blackpool with their promenade. And they have retained all 3 piers whereas the one pier in the Isle of Man has fallen into disrepair and has been mothballed and currently unuseable.

I notice all the old trams have been displaced by new and modern.

Stag and hen party capital of the north. Will venture there with the wife in the summer for a day out. We will have baby in tow by then. 8 weeks left!

I think when our loved ones go for the CFO sticker prior to coming to the UK that they should be shown a short video clip of Blackpool highlighting all its wonders :D

The visa process should include a section where the applicant agrees to visit Blackpool at least once in the first year of UK residency.

Blackpool has its drawbacks of course as we all know but it should rate highly on the Filipina places to visit in the UK list.

I see Mr Cameron is dodging questions about why he came down so hard on Jimmy Carr and his tax affairs and is refusing to answer questions about Gary Barlow and his obvious tax dodge.

Do you think its got anything to do with Gary Barlow being a big Tory supporter? :)

Careful what you say about Gary Barlow there, Timmers. He's a national institution don't you know. :)
