Hi im just asking if anyone can shed any light on bringing the mother in-law over from the philippines.
I know some of the criteria but as the mother in-law has only limited funds ie: pension would we still have a successful outcome if i was the sponsor in respect of funds as the wife wants her mother to come over next year and we both work. She only wants to come for a month or two and has her own property and still has her daughter and son living at home so on that grounds she will not overstay thanks.

Concentrate on the ties that ensure her desire to return you may be lucky its a cheap application but a lottery at the same time

just get her to apply for a general visit visa--stress she owns her family home and a bank a/c. if she gets refused it will give the reason and she can re-apply if she can overcome the objection.. its a cheap visa., but if successful it is valid for up to 6 months and is multi entry.
my girlfriend got one--at the second attempt--and stayed 6 months.

We have been successful on a couple of occasions with my wife's eldest daughter
We just told it as it was no job no property in fact not much reason to return!
However we did focus hugely on the fact that my wife was into the visa journey and so is my wife's youngest daughter and why would we jeopardise those visas with allowing the eldest to overstay.( I know each visa application is taken on its own merits)
Also stated that I am a law abiding citizen and would be ensuring she returned home.
Did it help? not sure but have had 2 granted! who knows
As said it's a lottery and cheap go for it

That's a very pragmatic and sensible approach John and I am glad it worked for you and your family, honesty is definitely the best policy and you were absolutely right to make it clear what you had to lose by allowing an overstay.

I am guessing you provided a very well written argument and I would bet that it helped a lot.

when I applied for my Dad's visit visa, i and hubby were the sponsors so we presented our bank details and payslips etc.,.and he also provided his pension details and personal bank details. In our cover letter, we emphasized that he had a home to go back to (so provided title of the house and some other properties) and that his other grandchildren would want him to go back; that he helps with the school runs as well, and has a farm to tend to. He is semi-retired and had court cases to attend, so we provided a letter to prove that. He only stayed for 3 weeks over Christmas. The only thing that I think is most important is to establish a compelling reason for your MIL to return to Phils
    Good luck!

As I said I have just started looking into bringing the wife’s mother over next year so can anyone tell me the answers to a few questions I have.

I take it the mother in law goes on the gov.uk site to fill the application.

Do I have to send her a sponsor letter to the Philippines and bank details before her appointment.

As me and the wife are planning to go out mid July next year and come back to the uk the end of August maybe first week of September would anyone recommend we get the mother in law to apply while we are there as I can take all the necessary paperwork with us so she can come back with us if successful as I read it only takes up to 10 days to get the outcome.

These posts frustrate me! People just wanting family and loved ones to visit them in the UK legitimately and struggling to do so. Yesterday 31 illegal immigrants crossed the English Chanel in a dinghy, they are now being given board and lodgings in the UK indefinitely. Since my wife arrived we have been fortunate to meet other Filipinos and they all bloody work and contribute in some way and these immigrants will not. Sorry for the rant, it just annoys me that families are kept from seeing each other! Good luck #johnc, let us know how you get on.

Would imagine that you should be able to set up the account and do the visa application from here. Mil then only needs to take along the relevant application form and evidence pack.

Effectively for my wife and step children applications think I did most of it from here. Second stepchild visit application was complicated and meant had to be dob after wife and first stepchild had visa and think I got the original application fedex ed to UK and used that to build an application pack and then FedEx ed it back to Philippines for wife to take him to VFS global.

As such think you should be able to manage the process from UK if you have all the documents or go to Philippines and finish the application and visit VFS global shortly after arrival. Should then have the ability to have her fly back with you.

One thing that I found useful/essential was to have a printer/scanner and computer available out there when preparing the packs for both visit visa and settlement visa.
