I don't carry any money here, I don't go out at night, I'm always with my wife, I always make sure there are people around me or near me.

I'm not flash with expensive clothes, I don't were gold apart from my wedding ring and if they wanted that then they will have to kill me before I kill them.

I'm the same - 1st wallet 50P, loads of expired cards, points cards, out of date drivers licence (also handy for the cops), etc...I don't keep the main wallet down my pants though - that would get the wife arrested the amount of times she's dips into it

If you haven't noticed things have got worse over the last year.Terrorist activity in the south,drug related executions etc.When I was in Manila last year I saw four other white people,makes you a possible target for robbery(especially the taxi drivers) .Bravado is all well and good but in certain parts of the country the risk is high.You can argue that any major city has the same risks but since that crazy git has took over there has been curfews put in place and an estimated 7000 killings.One white guy with a full wallet is an easy target,especially where the security isn't as good as in Manila

In fairness, that is hardly a response to the points he raised is it? If you disagree, please say why and provide evidence. It could prove informative for those of us who lack the information.

The response is to the comment " in case your not aware" if the poster had read other threads on the forum on the subject of the ongoing situations he would be aware of my contributions to the subject.in there you will find the " evidence"
He will also be aware of my response to a thread he started on his mission interpretation of basic visa information.

I also carry a throw down wallet with the same expired cards, old euro notes, and a thick wad of pesos in small denomination bills. Believe it's a sensible precaution. My family and I have not been back to he Philippines recently and are also a bit worried about what we will find there when we do.

I have a simple way of avoiding being robbed ..or kidnapped in the Philippines....I won't go.

To be honest, now that my wife is here I don't really feel much attachment to the place and it's long, inconvenient plane ride. I'm not personally keen to go back for a few years.

I am not too sure about that. According to these old figures the UK has a firearms death rate of 0.06 per 100,000 of population compared with 8.9 for the Philippines. I would expect the situation in the Philippines has worsened somewhat given duterte and the drug war. Homicides in the UK are relatively rare. I haven't been able to find the figures for robbery but the problem with the Philippines is that a westerner is at a much higher risk. That skews the figures. So no. I don't agree with the statement that the UK is worse or riskier.
