..and I don't think he cares so much in hiding what he is capable of.

How do you view Dutertes brand of hospitality, the vigilante and death squad element? Good thing or bad?

Why should he? When he has not only Davao, but the whole of Mindanao's support; both the ordinary citizens and politicians alike.

But it won't make him president. He lacks money and support from the other two islands. And he knows it too...

He is just gauging how much support he can garner, and he is trying to stop Binay from gaining ground in Mindanao.
    ----

Don't get me wrong though. Duterte is a crook. But I'd rather have him than the likes of Roxas and Binay.
You always go with the lesser evil.

I'd rather have that, the so-called 'Trigger Justice' than vicious and serial criminals being able to go out and about freely. Like our gentleman paedo, watching the little kids...

There are more 'evils' as you say, in the Philippines, than say Duterte and his fellows. The Ampatuans for example. Now that's quite a big and lovely family...

You always go with the lesser evil.

Duterte was a previous smuggler of expensive 'crystals' and different types of 'ice' (the ones that get you addicted). Now he makes money of selling mining licenses to foreign companies. Also, any business you open up in Davao, he has to approve first. He also likes to put people to sleep-- permanently as a hobby if you're a criminal, or you ever cross him.

Binay, meanwhile, makes money off every thing in Makati. From the buttons of the clothes the security guards in Makati wears, to the building permits, then down the condominiums/flats itself. If it has a price tag, and it's located in Makati, he gets a share of the sale value, in one way or another. All of his family members do the same. They're practically the royal family in Makati. And yes, they have their own soldiers too.

Roxas, meanwhile, is the true puppet master. The one behind every thing in the Philippines. Noynoy is just the puppet on the strings. As a side-note, Noynoy was actually diagnosed with slight autism when he was young, which of course, the Philippine media hides the fact. Anyway Roxas was the one who gave the approval of Napenas' Oplan Exodus, the so-called 'Mamasapano clash'

So take your pick. Which one is your bet for the next President of the Philippines? Hahahahaha....

That's pretty easy; you adduce serious allegations against Duterte, and I think most of us have heard reports of the Binay dynasty, but you really have nothing to say about Roxas beyond vacuous assertions of some vast conspiracy, of which he is apparently the master mind.

I don't buy conspiracy theories. I see a capable enough US educated international banker who has gone into politics

(If you want to see a real Cunning Plan at work, look for the "Makati Sister Cities Program")

So Roxas, obviously, but you omitted Grace Poe.

Incidentally most of Binay's remaining support is in Mindanao - see the "sister cities program" - and he is still the leading contender.

I do agree that Duterte cannot win and is trailing his coat in the hope that someone will pay him to run - the important question being "whose votes will he take?"

Mamasapano was last month's attempt by the Left and the Binays to discredit Aquino and Roxas.

I strongly suggest that you stop throwing the word "autistic" around the place.

Your comment was not addressed to me but I would like to see Roxas for President with Poe for V-P. (Yes, I know that she is an adopted child - SO EXPLETIVE DELETED WHAT!!!)

I would really have liked to see Jesse Robredo for President - and he would have walked it - that plane crash was a disaster for the nation.

I don't buy into conspiracies too. And while I like reading the news sometimes for the laughs, I'm more into real events and listening to people actually in the midst of things.

The one on my right, if you're familiar with him, is the sort of people I talk to when it comes to politics. No BS, no conspiracies, just straight up real facts from the horses' mouths.

    --------

As for Grace Poe, she doesn't have much support.

Governor/Ex-Governor Chavit Singson of Ilocos Sur. Another politician of those same breed like Duterte.

She has good name recognition, I agree that she does not have a machine but she may perhaps carry the Estrada machine with her.

There has been a falling out between Estrada and Binay over the disputed area between Makati and Manila - this matters because many of the properties there have titles that have fallen in.

There's nothing ugly you can really say much about Grace Poe. But like I said, she doesn't have much support.

Politics in the Philippines is different than the politics in the UK.

Here's it's not only the common citizens that you have to court. You also have to court the other politicians.

She still lacks in both, and it's a shame.

She could probably win as a Vice-President if she goes for it instead.

    We agree.

Harry Roque did his best to be nasty to Poe and it blew back on him. "Couldn't happen to a nicer fellow!"

My assessment is that Roxas is the man best equipped to be President - rich enough not to help himself to more cash from the public purse, and with a good understanding of the way the Government actually works (parts of it work really well, like the banking supervision, parts of it are pretty good, like the DoH, and other parts - are like the Bureau of Customs!*) He is short on charisma and should stay away from the song and dance stuff, and his wife, Korina Sanchez, is not a popular figure. So he is by no means confident of winning.

Poe may pick up the support of the Estrada machine, on grounds of delicadeza, especially if Binay's camp continue to get it wrong with her.

    Binay remains a real threat.

What I don't want to see is a re-run of Ramos followed by Estrada. You are too young, but I remember it well - FVR endorsed Joe de Venezia who has no charisma at all and Erap strode into the Malacanang... and the nation went backwards for the next 12 years..

If FVR had been able to persuade Juan Flavier to run...

    * which seems to belong to the InC...

I maybe young in terms of age, but I've got the life experiences of someone in their fifties. I could probably write a book about it.

But yes, going back to the topic, Roxas is a crook but he is very good at hiding it. And yes, he is really not that much attracted to the aspect of getting richer. What he wants most is power. Korina would be his bane though. A really greedy woman, that one. She would be his Imelda, except an Imelda who also beats up her own house-helpers/maids.

Binay if this continues, would have the best chance to win. As grim as that may be, figuratively and literally. Followed by Roxas. And the rest is up for scraps.

I'll still go with Duterte, even though I know he'll lose.

    Agree again.

I think the plan might be to get Binay behind bars, if his support does not erode by election day. Very high risk strategy.
Question is whether Duterte takes votes from Binay or from Roxas.

It's a good strategy, but one that was implemented too early. Election is on May of next year. Still a very long way to go.

And you know, Filipinos minds quickly change and easily forget. Just another tragedy, event or political hoopla, and Binay's corruption will easily be put aside just like the Ampatuan incident and Mamasapano clash. Or even that Napoles, Revilla, Jinggoy case. Heck, even the RH Bill.

    Binay likely won't be apprehended...

Duterte would likely takes votes from Roxas but some from Binay. People in Mindanao are not really much into Roxas there.

Gentleman. Who is in the running right now?

And by what date does anybody have to declare their final intent to stand?
