We recently attended the Liverpool Outreach programme provided by the Philippine Embassy in London. The nature of the visit was to renew asawas passport in readiness for ILR. To maximise the visit I thought it prudent to also do Registration of Birth for our children. Seeing as they are now older than 1 year meant that an Affidavit of Late Registration of Birth was also required. Current (2016) price for Registration of Birth is £20 and an addition £20 for the Affidavit. Registration of Birth (and in our case also Affidavit) effectively gives the Children a right to hold Philippine citizenship, there are no other requirements needed when applying in the UK. When applying for Registration of Birth and in order to acquire dual citizenship one of the parents has to currently be a Philippine citizen. Bear in mind that this can also be after the Filipino becomes a British citizen and has then re-acquired Filipino citizenship. When the registration is performed in the UK you will be offered the opportunity to also apply for a Philippine passport for the child. If a passport is not an immediate priority it can be declined however bear in mind that the registration process will take at least 6 months to become effective with the Philippine Statistics Authority (NSO). If you apply for a Passport for the child as a separate process to the Registration of Birth be aware that on the Philippine Embassy in London website it states that you have to do a Registration of Birth as part of the application.
