Please be warned when you come to Dubai, when they stamp your Passport they may write 90 days at the top of the stamp and inform you that its a new law ALL EU countries have got 90 days, this is partly true, but the UK as still got 30 days ONLY and NOT 90 days.
Am still in Dubai at the moment and my visa has expired due to this and now I have over £1000 in fines with about £18 per day still being added.

Hello Jonnie and welcome to British Filipino, can you not use your passport as a way not to pay the fine?

It wasn't your fault after all, it was a mistake by the immigration officer.

The UAE is not the kind of place where you want any immigration problems, or any other kind of problems for that matter, its a jail first ask questions later kind of place.

Sorry for the late reply, I have been to UAE immigration and they said I must pay and also the UK immigration office said I should just pay the fine, even that I told them I have no money at all. Am living of my wife's salary which is low and just about covers the rent for a room, food and our daughters nappies, the UK immigration office were useless, they just told me to ask family and friends or put an ad on Go Fund Me ?

From what I have read on this forum about UK immigration is does not surprise me in the least that you have received no help whatsoever from them, they are useless as you know. What is even more frustrating about your case is the fact that you were obviously blameless and the fault lies solely with the UAE immigration who wrongly stamped your passport.

Bit of a damn cheek too asking you to go cap in hand to your friends.

I am guessing you are really peeved off about this, and rightfully so.

I've been here for just over 2 years now, but currently been out of work for the past 10 months, each month I use to fly to Oman and back for about £89 per month, but of late and being told the new rules and law states 3 months visit visa for European Nations apart from UK and a few others, as definitely messed it all up for me.

I'm assuming you have to leave the country every month to renew your visa to stay with the loved one, I can see how it has messed things up for you as your resident permit for the UAE is normally tied to your work visa.

I hope you can find a job soon to make things a little easier for you.

Take a tour around Jebel Ali and knock on a few doors with CV in hand, my wife did this for her her daughter just before she arrived in Dubai and she managed to get some interviews set up for her.

Depends what kind of business you are in I know.

Just make sure you pay the fine Jonnie, as you probably know, the vast majority of people in UAE jails are there because they owe money.

I did that for Local business, but didn't get any thing, Am in the building trade, am a Site Supervisor, the only problem here is that Indian, Pakistan, and Filipino Salaries are a lot lower than a European and they can't see why they should employ someone with a higher salary when someone with a lower salary can do the same.
I've tried Retail Sales, Sales and Marketing, Media, events and all have the same results

I understand one hundred percent what you are saying, have you thought about moving back to the UK, is that an option?

Have thought about that, but I have no family home to go back too, both my parents have died and my family simply wont help, My wife wants to stay in Dubai and get enough money to buy a house back in the Philippines and start a Food and Bottle water business there

The Philippines sounds an option then, there are quite a few British chaps living in the Philippines who are regulars here, if you need any advice just start a new thread and you will receive some very good advice I can assure you of that.

I have worked in Dubai quite a few times, its where I met my wife, she was there for twelve years, I never got a job there permanently and in hindsight I'm glad I didn't.

Dubai it self is great, people are very friendly, but for work as I said earlier is hard for Europeans, but I guess it's what line of work you are in.

Back in the seventies when the oil business took off over there it was the place to make a killing financially, as you have pointed out, the jobs that us Brits did back then have mostly been taken over by Indians, Pakistanis and Filipinos, understandably so, just natural progression in my opinion. The top management jobs though are still mainly reserved for Europeans and Americans, it is still a place where your passport can land you a good job. My wife had a good living there, good job working for a private bank and they also paid quite a sum for her apartment, she had a good life there, better given that her two sisters have lived and worked there for years too.

I reckon it's going to be best to get yourself back to UK asap Jonnie.

No shortage of work here for you now, from what I'm reading.

Benefits will give you a temporary crutch til you've sorted out some work (maybe work with lodge too). Construction boom here ! Wish I was young enough to take advantage (I'm a plant op).

Get your finances back on track and have enough to help out your loved ones...then off to the Phils when you're ready. See if you can get a credit card or loan from someone in UK.
If you can show the FCO that you don't have funds available, then I believe they will loan you money to get you back to UK if you press hard enough.

    Good luck mate.
