Sad day for football. Famous club Bury FC have been expelled form the football league failing to get a new owner.

Another famous club, Bolton Wanderers have been given 14 days to complete a take over by new owners or face expulsion from the league.

    R.I.P. Bury FC.

It demonstrates the perils all clubs in the lower divisions could face.

Bury already had a 'new' owner. Something like 40 of the 50 companies Steve Dale had been involved with entered liquidation. He is an asset stripper. Bury's debt was sold to another company which happened to be owned by Dale's daughter. It's madness the Football League allowed this guy (and the previous owner) to buy a club. The fit and proper guidelines clearly not fit for purpose.

The guy didn't even know Bury had a football club. Couldn't make it up. He did know, however, that there was a stadium on a prime bit of real estate.

    Very sad.

We all know that football has just become a business first and sport second.
As for the local people and their 100+ years old town/city team, well .

Maybe the Football League needs a good kick... in the nuts.

The owner of Accy Stanley knows a thing or two about running a lower league club. Being a local rival of Bury, he has helped to get new ownership into the club, but the picture he paints is pretty bleak. By the sounds of it, Bury has been a dead man walking for some time. Real shame.

It nearly happened to Wrexham a few years ago, until the supporters club had a huge collection in town, in record time, paid all back taxes, and purchased the club,
The ground, The Racecourse, was saved for posterity by being purchased by next door Glyndwr University and then leased back to the club.
As far as I know, Wrexham, is functioning well in the black.

My team Swindon have come close to folding many times' theres a fine line between success and failure' .....

You can pay for success but in the end it doesnt last forever' by all accounts Bury fc bought success but couldnt sustain it and ended up in debt' the lower league's teams are so hungry for success that they will allmost sacrifice anything for it....

I weep for Bury all though they are a rival football club' it is sad to see any team goto the wall..... well except poxford lol i mean oxford.
