Hi, just wondered if anybody on here can help. I going to the Philippines soon and need to make business calls to the UK. Best option so far seems to be Viber Out (I will be calling landlines and mobiles), but I'm worried about the Wi-Fi not being up to it. I would rather not use a Filipino sim either. Is there a better alternative anyone knows about? Grateful for your input, thanks. Jon

I've used Skype from the Philippines before. Probably similar to the above. If you're staying in a hotel then you could of course use a landline and pay for it. Or enable GSM roaming on your own cellphone and pay for that. Depends on how critical your business calls are for you.

Why dont you want to use a Filipino sim??
Globe are about 5 Pesos a minute as of now but from time to time they have unlimited call deals which we have used..
The Mrs uses viber BTW.. Says it works good when the BB signal is reasonable.

Viber appeals more than a Filipino sim because I'm calling new customers and as soon as they see an international call coming through they will think twice about answering it. If I was calling colleagues it would be a diferent matter. As for roaming I think I'd be paying about £2 a minute with o2! I'll just hope for a good wifi signal and maybe use email as much as poss. Thank you for your input, much appreciated.

First time when I went to the Philippines my bank blocked my card because I didn't tell them I'm going away, so I just went to the MegaMall connect to the free Wi-Fi and I used Skype to call my bank.
Quite amusing it was as the girl from security team on the line when I told her I am in Philippines now in Manila and to be more specific I am in MegaMall. She was surprised and she told me she is very close. Just few streets away in ortigas. :)
