Working on the MV Royal Viking Star, in 1980, I had the opportunity to travel to Canada and Alaska on a run of 6 cruises, back to back.

Victoria on Vancouver Island was nice but kind of boring, too Rhyl/Prestatyn looking, with all the bungalows where pensioners go to die.
Only saving grace were the outstanding Burchart (?) gardens in full bloom at that time of the year.
Highlight of the trips, was the train journey from Skagway (Alaska) to Whitehorse (Yukon), which followed closely the gold trail of 1898. The Vancouver, overnighter, was another favourite, with all the seedy clubs, with strippers dodging beers on the counter while attempting to perform some kind of erotic dance. In Gastown the steam clock was the real winner for me.
Yeah, Canada did leave a positive impression with me, but not a big enough one for me to call it the "Best" country in the world.

One memory of the whole 7 weeks was to have witnessed smoke still rising from the remains of Mount ST Helens explosion, while passing on the way North.

I visited Canada just under 20 years ago and did toy with the idea of emigrating to Canada but wasnt brave enough to do it, and was still married at that time, its undoubtably a lovely country and people, it is top of my to do list on places to visit sometime later this year Covid permitting of course, and wifey agreeing ;).

You're probably right, Druk1, but emigrating is not feasible for me these days.

I would love to take the kids to see the Banff area one day in the future.

I have seen videos like this:.........perhaps one day......
