Well I hope they have finished the improvements at Doha airport, anything will be better than it was :)

Dubai is probably one of the best airports to transit in the world, as for Abu Dhabi that still lags a long way behind Dubai.

    Anyone tried Malaysian airlines before?

I flew with them a few years ago and it wasn't the greatest flight. The airlines track record hasn't been good for the past few years, so i would think that many people have avoided using them recently. If you’re insistent on minimizing your crash risk, you should avoid airlines from developing countries. Personally it wouldn't bother me, however i am sure many on this forum will disagree.

Yeah I quite agree they dont really have good record in the past. It's just that my partner has flown with them twice already and he says he recommends it than PAL. I've flown with PAL twice but I don't see any problem with them but still I can't compare since I've only tried PAL in the past. But PALs one way ticket is very expensive so we're considering other airlines.

I have been through Doha, Abu Dhabi and Dubai this year.
Doha is fine if you're transiting.
For me, Dubai is just too big. Too much walking... and taxi-ing.
    Abu Dhabi... happy medium.

Haven't been on a 380 but I like the tail-cam view there, more interesting than the under-fuselage aspect.

I flew on a Qatar Airways A380 (reg: A7-APF) between Doha and Bangkok in August.

Nice flight, nice aircraft, and Doha seemed an easy transit airport.

Makes take-offs more interesting too (the one in the pic is from Manchester). 380 Manch.jpg

Never flown Malaysian airlines longhaul, but I quite like their domestic and local Asian flights.

It is many years since I've flown with Malaysian... and they were fine, but also quite a long time ago, I sent my young (then) son home 'unaccompanied' from the Phils to UK with them.

They were so so kind to him, when he apparently started to feel unwell. They upgraded him to First Class for the majority of the flight, where they sat him next to a doctor.

I wrote them a letter, thanking them. :)

I think I'd prefer a stop over for a few hours, 17 hours is just a little too much for me especially if you're travelling serf class.

My first flight was to Singapore in one of the planes pictured (Hermes)... back in the 1950s.
It took 3 days, including 2 overnight stops and 7 for refuelling. Though only a little kid at the time, I remember it very clearly... including riding the steam train down to London. :)

My first flight to Asia was in 1955 on a BOAC Super Constellation and we stopped at Rome, Athens, Cairo (overnight), Karachi, Bombay, Calcutta (overnight), Rangoon, Bangkok, then we were supposed to land at Kuala Lumpur but due to a tropical storm we landed in Singapore. I then took a local DC3 back up to KL.
