Thanks for sharing your experience @florgeW may I know when/how long ago was your attempt to register the birth and apply for a Ph passport for your daughter? The embassy seems to change their rules without giving notice. I have emailed them but no response.

I remember when I was at the embassy last Nov 2018 there were few applicants registering their marriage and applying for passport with change name at the same time. The officer accepted the applications no prob. However months prior to this I was told that the report of marriage has to be PSA copy before I can apply for a new passport - same thing they told you about your daughter’s report of birth. They’re very confusing and frustrating.

We will be going to London anyway so I think we’ll bring all the documents and try our luck at the embassy. Otherwise we will use the Bb privilege.

Hello, we have recently applied for a British passport for our child who was born in the UK to a British father and a Filipino mother. The list of requirements to send does not include the father’s British passport and marriage certificate but I have seen some posts about the passport office asking for these documents. Can anyone shed some light on this please? Thanks.

Hi Roseanne! I just sent for my daughter's passport last week, same situation as you. British father (myself) and Filipino wife.

You are not required to include the Passport itself, but the application does provide a field for the Passport number. This is suffice for their records.

If the father was born after 1983, you are required to detail evidence of child's Grandparents right to British Citizenship. That's listed on one of the sections of the application.

Lastly, you do need to include the long version of the British certificate. If you haven't a duplicate from after the registration of the birth, you can do with the registry office.

If you're doing an offline application (Paper form), I recommend the Check and Send Service with the Post office. Peace of mind for thankfully, a form far less troublesome than UKVI Visa :)

Hi @Macchiato thanks a lot for your response! Shame we did not know about the check and send service by the post office, my husband has already paid for the online application
We do have a copy of the long birth certificate that we can send. Did you send your marriage certificate also? Not sure if this is required as a proof that the parents are married at the time of the child’s birth. Lastly did you send your British birth certificate?
Sorry loads of questions, its just that the checklist we have is too general and seems a little vague to me.

Not to worry about the Online application; it's actually now perferred by the goverment. They've made it cheaper & quicker to do it online and attempting to phase out the paper form by making it more expensive!

No, we didn't need to include our Marriage certificate. As it does not matter if you're married or not.

Nor my Birth certificate too, as I believe you'll only need to include this if the Father does not have a Passport yet. Or, requires further proof he's British.

Most important is the Child's Birth Certificate, Father's Passport number & the counter-signature.

Thank you for the clarification @Macchiato counter-signature is not required online but someone needs to confirm the identity of the applicant instead. We still need to gather and send our supporting docs though. Hope everything goes well in both our applications. Thanks again :)

I actually received a text message from Passport Office (I'm listed as the primary contact) that our little one should receive the Passport by 4th of January!

So perhaps like you - you have parents who are excited to see your little one in 2020 :) I wish you the all the best as well and a happy new year! :D
