Have you had any 'Rudolf' or 'Prancer' ?

Very nice and quite different, only been served Rudolf once in 1999 a fair bit north of Saffle in Sweden when we were treated to a business night out in a wonderful wilderness restaurant, really enjoyed their food and beer :)

I've only ever had reindeer in Sweden too, I cannot recall ever seeing it on a menu in the UK. I cannot remember what it tasted like but I think it was served like and tasted similar to fillet steak but I could be mistaken. I had elk there too, and again I have not got a clue what it tasted like.

I was there around Christmas time and seem to remember having a traditional Christmas dinner consisting of herring and meatballs.

    A pleasant place.

My memory of it was more gamey than beef but a very interesting flavour overall, prior to that we had indulged in lunchtime smorgasbord which was wonderful the range of things on offer was fantastic.

By virtue of my chosen trade, I have spent quite a lot of time in Greece, in Japan, in Greater China, in port cities in Europe and in North America and of course in Norway... the great centres of merchant shipping. In Norway, I became very partial to reindeer - it is more tender than, say, red deer venison, and really quite delicious. I recommend it highly.
