When my wife and brother in law first arrived I took them to Ate Cora's within a few days of arrival. Obviously when they arrived there was some apprehension but my brother in law was amazed that just 5 miles away from where we lived he could have lechon kawali with mang tomas and pickled papaya! I think it helped them to settle knowing that not everything here was alien to them.

I bet Cora is host to a lot of people who get to the northwest and struggle to find anything resembling home, but suddenly find her little eatery and homesickness gets a little easier.

When you consider, she must have helped and welcomed with open arms hundreds of filipinos and others over the years. I think she's an amazing lady.

Is this place still open? I remember phoning the number many times over several days, several months ago and there was no answer. I was visiting Manchester at the time

She's definitely still open but you need to contact her first to make sure she'll be there. You can facebook her at corazon torres or private message me and i'll give you her mobile.

Okay. I used to live in Manchester, so I would easily find my way there. We were just there for a few days some months back. Nice to take the mrs there for a treat.

We ended up going to a place in the Trafford Centre (Tampopo) that did chicken adobo, but that was it Pinoy style.

I've had that. First chicken adobo I've ever had with cauliflower in it.

Perhaps you misunderstood me. I wasn't offering her mobile in case you needed directions, you need to call her at least a few days before you go so she can make sure she is there and can cater for your requirements.

Anyway her mobile number is 07733 689008.

I would strongly recommend that anyone intending to go there please call her at least a few days before so she can be ready. I'd hate for anyone to travel far and she be closed or not have the dishes you want.

Yes as has been commented before elsewhere her cafe mostly serves western style food day to day, you have to ask her for a proper Filipino menu in advance if you want authentic home cooking.

No. I did follow ya. Thanks. I was simply saying that I was familiar with the area. Sorry for not being clear.

We have a restaurant near us called the New Manila Cafe, owned by a Filipina. Sadly it just does Thai food and has Thai chefs. This was simply down to local demand. She started off with a Filipino menu once a week. but dropped it due to lack of demand.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't that Indian tricycle there when it was Shere Khan?

You might be right. I remember Sheer Khan. I ate there a few times. Tampopo moved there from where Rice is now, a while back. OK so it is an Indian trike and not a Thai tuk tuk?

    Chicken Adobo Philippines
Chicken thigh in a tangy sauce flavoured
with peppercorns, garlic & bay leaf.
Served with wok-fried broccoli and sweet
    potato chips £9.50

Seemed okay but I am no connoiseur.

I had that a few years back....with cauliflower! It was ok but not that close to traditional adobo in my humble opinion.
