I don't stand and watch to be honest! As I say hand washing is basic hygeine and I think there is a lack of it in some of the more densely populated areas either by design or ignorance.
The single biggest risk with this virus is extended close proximity to an infected individual, you could get unlucky and be infected in a minute or it might take half an hour but it is because you are breathing in virus particles or in the worst case droplets or having the same settle on the mucosal surface of your eyes. You can also spread it by contact and via surfaces but they have been downplaying that risk for a while now. Washing your hands is a basic health requirement for everyone at any time not just during a pandemic.
Is there something in that response that's new to me! We appear to be just reinforcing my comment that some of this is down to basic hygeine and in some communities the basics are either ignored , miss understood or for a multitude of reasons not able to be adhered to.
It wasn't "some communities" Muslim communities were being singled out in this context. I saw people everywhere paying no heed to the rules on social distancing in shops for the last few months I don't remember seeing any that could be described as stereotypical Muslims. It is a relief that people now have to wear masks in supermarkets but even now many idiotically don't cover their nose with the mask, it is unbelievable.
i think you missed out a bit--- The east of the city appears to have been the epicentre a place with tightly packed terraced housing and a lot of multigeneration asian / indian muslim households, and there seems to have been a lack of social distancing at work.
I realise you are trying to make a pointed analogy in the context of my industry, it's not the best one to choose though. My industry is one that is indifferent to the pandemic in terms of our productivity and in my personal case the major risk to my employer's future is my death, indeed it is uppermost in my mind and theirs that they find someone capable of replacing me in the next 5 years, and that won't be easy because of my experience and innate talent, the real problem for them is finding an older developer with the right skillset indeed for other reasons we are looking to hire over 60's with COBOL experience to retrain on a different dialect of COBOL (I'm not a COBOL programmer by the way).
I forgot about that, got an early 5 hour drive north on Wednesday, I know the perfect place for eggs Benedict breakfast I shall take advantage of the discount.
Yes masks are useless if you think you are protecting yourself. They only work if everyone is wearing them (and using them properly like covering their nose). edit: the exception is masks compliant with the FFP3 standard which will protect you, they are very expensive, I just bought a batch and some laboratory googles as I have some upcoming face to face meetings.
In addition to my reply above see these, watch the second one at least as far as 2 minutes 20 seconds the first one is short.
Er no pointed analogy was ever entertained, I think IT is an excellent industry to use as that is where many youngsters excel. The intention was that my post was pointed yes as with many industries it just so happened you are in IT, had you the poster been a banker I would of used the Banking industry. As with a lot of stuff my post was a generalisation of a scenario that could happen across many industries. You chose that in response in the main was to make it personal, I think we all know all industries have debatable roles non of us are indispensable, regardless of skill sets.
I wore a mask in Asia for the first time and it was annoying. More so when you see Asia staff walking around the store not using masks and others across all adult age groups not using a mask.
