A study in Chile, which has one of the furthest-advanced vaccination campaigns in South America -- mainly with China's Coronavac, has found that a first dose alone does not protect against coronavirus infection.

The study by the University of Chile found inoculation to be 56.5 percent effective in protecting recipients two weeks after the second dose, and 27.7 percent effective within the first two weeks.

The Oxford AZ which we all got is little better.

The point of the Oxford AZ and the Chinese vaccines is to prevent serious illness and death they won't necessarily completely suppress all symptoms nor completely suppress transmission although it would appear that suppression down to mild illness is enough to prevent most transmission.

This quote below references one study from Brazil that is quoting similar levels of protection from moderate to severe disease as the Oxford AZ vaccine, but as they point out you need more people vaccinated to completely protect a population when the individual efficacy is low and low efficacy equates to a difficulty in measuring efficacy itself as they have differing reports from different countries in regards to the Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines.

I checked the KLM destination entry requirements for the Philippines for Christmas it came back and told me that basically I should not book, they just say do not board, but really that means you would have to be insane to buy a ticket just now.

I think Christmas is cancelled for me now, I can see things being a lot worse in the Philippines by December rather than better, mostly due to the slow vaccination program and the anti-vax resistance in the population including in my own family.

Actually I listened to one of the proponents (a senator) of this on the tv this week and he made quite a good case for dishing it out!

I think it's b*ll*x but I can understand ordinary people trying it (for P30 a tab) especially when the only alternative here is Remdesivir which they're charging P18,000 a shot for - we're all in this together :D

WHO advises that ivermectin only be used to treat COVID-19 within clinical trials

I watched a doctor talking about Ivermectin the other week, I'm not sure I think the WHO is right that it should only be used in clinical trials at this time.
