Anyone else notice this law came into force today ?

The Counter-Terrorism and Border Security Act 2019 ..... which creates a criminal offence of entering or remaining in a “designated area” overseas.
An individual found to have entered or remained in a designated area could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

I've searched & searched but can find no reference or list of what these "designated areas" are.
Perhaps they'll get announced at a later date.

..... but it's not outside the realms of impossibility that certain areas of Mindanao (eg Muslim Automonous Areas, Sulu, Marawi City etc etc) might end up categorised as a "designated area".

    ..... to be continued

I have been in quite a few what could be classed as designated areas with no intent other than to have a kick about,i think there would have to be more to it than just entering an area.

The designated areas could be declared in an emergency or when needed... kind of "as and when"...

    Giving extreme latitude...

It also allows people to visit still, especially if you have family in the designated region, you just need to apply for permission.

    Presumably Syria-related.

Just cancel their passports before they return, and save the taxpayer a lot of money.

Nothing to do with tourists and backpackers, etc.
