Let's get back to the main topic: dating sites, advice, aspects and pros and cons. What about Skype? A few women I wrote to asked if I wanted to use Skype, but the majority didn't, and I'd decided early on that I preferred just to send messages in my own time. Looking back on the 12 women I met where it didn't work out, I don't think Skype would have helped. It might even have given a false sense of "reality", while what really counts is real life. It might have helped in just one case, where I decided against the girl because she talked too much! (among other reasons). Other reasons why I decided against certain women, e.g. she hit her children for no reason, she kept changing her mind about whether she wanted a relationship after meeting me, she was too aggressive, etc. wouldn't have shown up on Skype. However, unlike OTT, there were very few cases where I realised after ten minutes that it wouldn't work, it generally took two or three meetings or being with her for two or three days.

Oh okay. In that case, I had already answered it (in the message) before you asked your question!

I hope the OP is fully aware of the laws in the Phils , concerning any non-related adult being in the company of a minor.

And what does that law say?

Yes indeed and one of the most compelling reasons to be very careful about entering into a relationship with a single mother. A simple "look after the kids whilst I go buy BBQ" could so easily become an opportunity by her family to make some serious money by blackmail.

Do you mean to tell me that you're not aware that you commit a criminal offence if you are alone in the company of minor child?

Just as a matter of interest, has it ever occurred to you that the woman you meet might not, actually, like you?

May I ask what age group is your desired lady?

Put aside the law for a minute or two and ponder.
You are a rich (in their eyes) westerner
You are a mature lonely ( in their eyes) man in a strange country
They are poor and see a way to make a few quick bucks
    You love being around children
Your language skills over there are not as great as theirs
They have many friends and family

The law of grief stands out

    Article 6(b)

It's a terribly written law. It's not just a 'catch all' clause, but it's a 'catch too much' clause. I don't doubt for a moment you have good intentions, but if the wrong person decides to make your life a misery, it is very easy. And they can have the full backing of the law!

I will own up to having knowingly broken the law on several occasions. I've made my own judgement call that the family accept me and nobody else is around to infer otherwise. Besides, if I tried anything with Jerwin, he'd probably kick my butt anyway!

My circumstances have only been fleeting family visits. You'd have to exercise caution (and your own judgement) if you were to do something as banal as take the kids to Jollibee whilst Mum is cleaning the house.

    This is the applicable section:

    (b) Any person who shall keep or have in his company a minor, twelve (12) years or under or who in ten (10) years or more his junior in any public or private place, hotel, motel, beer joint, discotheque, cabaret, pension house, sauna or massage parlor, beach and/or other tourist resort or similar places shall suffer the penalty of prision mayor in its maximum period and a fine of not less than Fifty thousand pesos (P50,000): Provided, That this provision shall not apply to any person who is related within the fourth degree of consanguinity or affinity or any bond recognized by law, local custom and tradition or acts in the performance of a social, moral or legal duty.

(The typos are 'theirs', not mine  )

Am I gonna have to google "consanguinity" or is somebody going to explain it.

Well, I walked along the beach holding hands with my wife's 10 year old niece recently, while everyone else was shopping. Clearly putting my life on the line there then.

In addition to that, a foreigner may very well be required to pay fines and charges to cover the twelve years' worth of visa extensions before his by now-expired passport is returned to him.

It's all to do with shared blood (at its literal level).

The first degree of consanguinity is a parent-child relationship. A second degree would be a sibling relationship. The third degree is an uncle/aunt with a niece/nephew while the fourth degree is between first cousins.

I was aware and conscious of the situation of being alone in a hotel with a minor , but didn't really consider , picking the gf's son up from school at her request, when she was sick, or walking down to the local 7/11 to get some shopping and buy him an ice cream , to be risky .

If that's the possible outcome , then I'll need to re think certain things .
