    For us all on lockdown:

    Deepwater Horizon movie.

Saw this on Amazon Prime the other day and thought it was very good.
Perhaps enjoyed a little bit more by the oil industry bods on here like JohnAsh and me.
It reminded me of my old life on the rigs.

    Anyone seen it?

It was OK, not overly good as it was glitzy Hollywood yeeha. May I suggest Uncut Gems, you will like it ;)

I saw this not long after it came out. My previous employer was one of the companies that was heavily implicated in the disaster. They didn’t feature at all in the movie though, as far as I remember.

The whole thing was a good example of the Swiss Cheese model which suggests that disaster strikes when several compromised areas of safety all line up at the same time. There were several areas of neglect. Ultimately BP were culpable of course.

    As @Druk1 says, glitzy Hollywood.

    From one internet source:

“U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier said BP was mostly to blame for the 2010 Gulf of Mexico disaster, which killed 11 people and spewed oil into the water for 87 days. Barbier attributed 67% of the fault to BP, 30% to Transocean, which owned the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig, and 3% to Halliburton, the cement contractor.”
