I don't know if any of you followed the Van Der Leyen debacle on a diplomatic visit to Turkey, early in the week. To cut a long story short, she was left without a chair to sit on, unlike the other EU president (of something or other), who sat boldly next to Recep Erdogan, self styled dictator of Turkey and beyond... I find it funny on a couple of levels, The EU is not a Sovereign Nation, but an organisation, so I don't think that it needs or requires diplomatic ties or rules to follow. The obvious cock-up by someone in high places in not getting the event thought and managed properly, one cannot blame a computer glitch for that... Then, I cannot understand how the VDL woman, ignored wearing a head scarf as a sign of respect. Proper female head of state, or wives of such, did in the past when ever they visited a mainly Muslim nation. Trying to blame Turkey for the gaffe did not go down too well... But, there always is a solution for a next time... The fact that I despise the EU and all those who run it, especially that woman, is totally coincidental
