There was a point last summer where my wife virtually begged me to allow her to to visit Davao for a few weeks. To cool-off - the thermometer here reached 42 degrees for about a week!

The Philippines just isn't all that hot a country. Very seldom does it get so hot as to be really uncomfortable. Most days are 29/30 but very rarely does it creep above 32. There's 2-3 months a year when it gets a bit hotter than that like March-May but most of the time it is OK really. Over time you can get used to temps as high as 32 quite easily but when it is 38 and up you can't get used to that. That is too hot for anybody.

all the southern European countries highest recorded temperatures are higher than that has ever been recorded in the Philippines, which is only 42 degrees and that is much higher than what the hottest day of the year usually is, a freak day or three where it might be 36 or 37 and no more.

38 isn't hot lol...Try the Middle East, where the night time minimum temperature in summer is more than that. I have seen 50+ regularly in Dubai. I agree that Philippines temperature isn't hot, I find it very pleasant. In fact we just came back into the house after cooking and eating dinner on the patio, in a very comfortable 26 deg.

me too. The very hottest temps I ever experienced, about 45, were in the Middle East, southern Israel, Egypt, Jordan and hot as they are, they are cooler than the Gulf.

and all that stuff about the humidity somehow making it even more unpleasant, which you often hear from British people, I don't go with that at all. I think it makes it more comfortable. The worst is when it is hard, dry baking unremitting sun like you get in the real desert kind of places. It's totally merciless when it's like that.

Sod that 45c way too hot, I can just manage it over here usually 30c and 26 at night, any hotter I would not be here.

Humidity gets to me a bit, but I'm getting used to it. Only when I do work or walk in the sun I sweat or in a hot room with no air-con.

Anyway back to the main thrust of the thread! I think he is telling them to get their act together on pollution!

We do OTT. We did a lot of travelling around the country and did our research before making our decision, but having made it, we saved hard and put everything into our future life here. We actually spent about 4 weeks in Boracay as well. We liked it there but at the end of the day it's a holiday resort, nice to visit but not for settling down.

Maybe after Duterte cleans up Boracay , he'd like to start cleaning up all the streets all over the country , or provide trash bins on the streets .

I love the Philippines , but I've never seen so much rubbish dumped at the sides of the roads in other Asian countries , such as Thailand , Vietnam , Indonesia .
I didn't bother to quote Singapore, as that is in a different league to many countries.

Where I am they have collection days, they dump their trash on that day (normally) and tip the men to take it away.

Oh and there's no litter issues in the UK, maybe on a lesser scale but we are a developed country.

Not a criticism, just an observation. If the President is serious about attracting more tourists in the future , it is something they will need to try to address .
There are many unemployed people whom I am sure would welcome the work involved in the clean up .

... + the 1,000s of mangy dogs everywhere. Shi****** wherever they feel like it. Disgusting, and potentially dangerous to health.
