recently i have been trying to buy a "zero gravity reclining garden chair. typical prices aroung £25-£30. some are way higher--others under £20. twice ive paid through paypal--both times ebay later told me the sellers site had been hacked. i got my money back. 2 other times ive messaged the seller to confirm the price--no replies.
looking at feedback--it seems the sellers had been inactive for a long time--and any recent feedback has been negative --saying its a scam.

today i tried again--at £21.25....but paypal refused the transaction !

    heres the link:

so--i guess thats a scam too.

Never used ebay tbh. Have you tried Amazon as a comparison? Ive never had any issues purchasing there.

I have used Ebay a lot, @bigmac and by and large it works for most. I did get scammed a few years ago but was fully recompensed by their protection in place. But that is one in several hundred transactions.

Best to avoid those sellers with a poor rating. Or even new sellers.

I used to have a large collection of Moorcroft pottery that was of course 2nd hand. I ultimately sold it all on Ebay where there is a wide market, with some pieces going overseas.

As a seller, out of 100 or so pieces I only had one awkward buyer.

    oh--i do!

i use ebay a lot. these scams are all about the same product. usually the seller has good ratings from a while back--then nothing till now. seems dormant a/cs are being hacked.. paypal refunded me twice. now today refused the transaction--now the item has been taken off.

I know what you mean. Pain in the butt. It’s a drag if you have to send something back, claim a refund etc.

I have used it mostly for 2nd hand stuff. Either buying or selling.

I use eBay a lot and also Amazon too, Paul.
Amazon is very useful with peoples' reviews but eBay can be cheaper and there are Nectar points there also.

I have had problems with Amazon. Either sending to the wrong destination, or not at all. Again that can be a faff if you want the item at a certain point in time. On balance both have their good points.

Okay on the Nectar points Mike. I must say they’re incredibly convenient. Asawa has bought items for as little as a few quid and they ship all the way from China!

I've bought quite a lot of things on e bay , and 95 % of the time they've been fine .
Only a few times , there has been an issue re colour , or quality for example and I have been refunded , without even returning the item .

There are of course, always fake goods , and a few scammers , but I have been lucky up until now.

Strangely enough @ bigmac, I looked at exactly the same chair on there , which was advertised by different sellers at several different prices .

I decided against it in the end and bought a chair from a local store . It will be much easier to return it if there are any problems , although it probably cost a bit more .
