Clubs opting into the European Super League should be banned immediately from the Premier League, says former England captain Alan Shearer.

The striker, who scored a Premier League record 260 goals for Blackburn and Newcastle, told BBC Breakfast the proposals "were not right", describing it as a "closed shop".

The proposals have faced a fierce backlash, including from fans and the government, although Real Madrid president Florentino Perez says the ESL will "save football".

Whilst I disagree with this super league nonsense I think there is an element of greed in all clubs, wanting the best players, a new stadium, new kits, a place in high profile revenue generating competitions but every sport has a level it should stop at.

I can't help but feel that where the club's that languish in high mid table or less will jump on any bandwagon of points deductions etc to try and position themselves into a place they cannot achieve on the field.

Woodward was due to go at the end of the year it looks as though that has been bought forward, in my eyes him and the Glazier family were never the right fit for United built on the endeavour of a Manchester butcher.

This European Super League debacle has made so many sports-loving people very, very angry across Europe.

The fall out will be immense and bigger than the original stupid plan.
Every true sport fan will want all the owners of the 12 teams to fall on their swords.

Hit the owners where it will hurt the most.
It was all about money for them so the punishment should be likewise, and by many means.
