Hire someone to do it or do it yourself? How easy is it to do it yourself exactly?

entirely your call. if the application is likely to fail--in other words--you dont meet the criteria---the best lawyer money can buy cant work miracles. on the other hand--if the application is straightforward and you tick all the boxes--why throw your money away ?

most of us here didnt use a lawyer for a fiancee or spouse visa--we did it ourselves. even if you do use a lawyer--you still have to run round collecting all the documents required.

Yeh I thought about that..I’ve still got forward all my stuff to them what I have gathered after all..so maybe easier to just submit it myself really when I’m ready and satisfied

i suggest you open an account for the visa application. start filling it up to get the hang of it. make up answers if needed. it allows you to progress through the form. you can save--change--even scrap it and start again. best if you each access it--shared email address and password. just dont hit the final Go button--lol. see how you get on.

also--prepare a list of all documents you think you will need--publish it on here so others can check it over--see whats missing.

we are not immigration experts--just like minded souls a little further along the learning curve--and happy to help out.

    Hi all
at the FLR (M) stage after a great 2.5 years, was thinking it was going to be simple like the last one but the online questions not making sense and the form is messed up in places.
The form says I am on the "family route" however I am not sure this is accurate as I came on a fiancee visa, we are now married and the last form did not ask these questions.
My husband has 2 fully grown independent children that are British Citizens and always have been and yet it is asking for copies of their birth certificates and for "Please provide details about this child's parent. Include the other parent's name, address and their level of contact or parental responsibility."; it just isn't making sense as to why these need answering.
It is also asking for a lot of detail for my children however they are not on the application, it asks the date when they entered the UK even though they have never been here. When I tried to carry on it gave an alert asking for their date of birth, see attached.

When we did ours we didn't declare my kids as they are over 18 and that is the legal age of a non dependant.
We didn't then get any questions on them!
Your kids I am not sure about but if over 18 don't declare if under declare and as you have put never lived in UK.

Yes have come to the conclusion for my husbands children, they are now adults so just say no!
On the original application after we got married we put down the details of the children in the Philippines which are all under 18 but we didn't need to do anything else. Now its asking for birth certificates which are not with us and we only have 2 weeks. I am confused as to the the date of entry and the need for su7ch evidence as they are not part of the application.

when we did my wife's 2nd flr last year, we didnt include my "children"--all in their 40s! nor did we include my wifes daughter--21.
her son -12-we did mention on her application, but emphasised he had already been refused a settlement visa..had never visited the UK, and was not part of her flr application.

    she was successful.

Yes thanks they are adults so out of it.
For your 12 year old did you need to supply birth certificates and evidence of support, child arrangement order?
For all 3 children we need to

    • Evidence of Miss ........... parental relationship with ............, such as a birth or adoption certificate, proof of financial contributions to the child’s well-being or general evidence demonstrating concern and interest in the child
    • Evidence of Miss ............ access to ..........., such as a written agreement between both parents or a child arrangement order
The other parent is literally no where to be found, I put down "sole responsibility" but still asking for details I cannot provide such as a child arrangement order.

Hello. How long did it take for you to get your visa from when they received it in the uk to receiving it. They emailed me to say they received ours at Sheffield one month ago. Thanks

It took 32 WORKING days to get the decision in Manila. I think from your question it has changed a lot since I went through the process, the Sheffield aspect of the process was certainly after I was granted the visa.

My mistake. It arrived at the decision making centre 6 weeks ago and got passed to border control to make a decision. The waiting is so stressful. Thanks for your reply.

You can wait on average between 8 and 12 weeks depending on the application.
    Not an easy time!
