I had the tocilog and my wife the tapsilog. I wish I had what she had.

Incidentally, the beef had been sweetened. :D

Slightly off topic I know, but I have had some excellent breakfasts here in Bali.

    My breakfast today was:

A large plate of fruit, simple but very good for breakfast:

Banana pancake with coconut and a dark sweet syrup (I need the recipe):

The breakfast menu has a choice, but I have ordered the same every day for the past week, certain I got it right on day one, those pancakes are a winner. :like:

Unfortunately the coffee served with breakfast is instant. I need a decent coffee in the morning, so I headed into Ubud for a relaxing stroll, and had a couple of coffees before the high mid-day humidity got too much.

Normally I stop off for a latte or two, but today I tried something different.

I spotted this gadget a couple of days ago, a ROK manual espresso maker, review here I had to give it a try.

Yesterday was failure as the shops electric supply cut out halfway through boiling the kettle, and the backup gas stove had an empty cylinder.

But today was success, I got a single shot of manually pressed coffee, then later had a Latte elsewhere.

The coffee was good, an excellent gadget, I want one.

I'm quite fond of Tocino but I prefer the egg as an omelette and plain rather than fried rice, Ana makes a wonderful omelette.

Ah yeah, I'm not fond of really fatty pork tocino sometimes the tocino from our local SM butcher is a bit like that.

I won't eat pork for that very reason, in fact I don't like the meat as well, it's like leather.

Talking of pandesal, there is a Filipina locally, where we love, that bakes it at home on a small scale commercial basis. On saturday she set up a stall at what you might call our local Barrio Fiesta. All sold out apparently.

I first came across tocino at a buffet breakfast in a Manila hotel. It was very good. Then I found it served in the same way in various other hotels. The tocino I had the other day was quite different, probably because it may well have been made in the UK or something like that?
