So what should he have done, let himself be assaulted?

edit: I had the page open, I missed Gerry's response a few minutes earlier.

    Don't be silly.
Everybody knows that Hitlers Nazis wore calf length jack boots.
If somebody was trying to kick you in the knackers, the last thing you would be doing is admiring his boots!

Thanks Jim - quite unbelievable really. It happened exactly as described above.

If it wasn't self defence the police would have lifted me rather than recognising we were the innocent party.

Dave - the term "Hitler-lover" is my insulting term for members of the ultra right-wing neo-nazis who formed the majority of the National Front / British Movement in the 1970s.

You might want to Google John Tyndall / Martin Webster. (see pic - Tyndall on left.)

I never suggested the thugs wore NSDAP uniforms but I know the guy who attacked me definitely wore Dr Martens. I have owned both DM shoes and boots down the years and recall that unpleasant incident very clearly indeed.

The thing is Mr O, is that the right honourable Member for Yorkshire West was seeking to take a swipe at Gerry, simply because Gerry had the "audacity" to contradict him.

Hi @Gravesy - well I don't know where our friend @graham59 hails from but I'm gaining the impression he's happy to dish it out but gets a bit precious when receiving push back.

    Water off a duck's back to me - it's t'internet for heaven's sake! :);)

    Have a great day!

On a serious note: what is the best way to answer when confronted by some person who has lived in a cave for the past century?

Would it be good to just say nothing? Answer back? Threaten them back with racism? call the hubby? Take photo?

In my background, i was always told to keep silent but remember the face so someone can track it for you for some sort of retaliation. Might not be applicable here but you never know.

Not a great thing to do over here as it leaves you open to prosecution.

Every situation is different however I think there are things you can do to contain or defuse or pre-empt. A few thoughts
Bus rides and other public transport always use the lower deck sit near the front most buses have video cameras nowadays.
Abusive person just smile and carry-on.
if a person engages you in conversation and tries to be racially funny just say pardon I did nt catch that, they cant repeat it as its not funny the second time round.
Always know where the safe exit is

In my days in Brighton in the 60's, amidst the mods and rockers battles, the police didn't stop to investigate who was right or wrong, they arrested everybody...:(

I've never spoken with this member before.

Still think me and my colleagues were violent aggressors - or do you now accept we were acting in self-defence?

What is this, 20 questions ?

    I have given my opinion.

If you think you can bully me, as you are clearly accustomed to doing with others, you are sadly mistaken.

Graham - you suggested I was acting in concert with another member.

You were wrong - as you were when you jumped to premature conclusion when unaware of the full circumstances surrounding the assault on me.

    Bullying? Oh dear!

    Carry on.

Were you a mod or rocker Dave?

I'm a few years too young but as I later liked the music of the Who, Kinks, Small Faces etc I may have been drawn to the mod scene - but prefer motorbikes to scooters!

Despite what our good friend Graham59 appears to think I'm really not the sort to go terrorising folk with a bike chain! More of a lover than a fighter. ;)

I can see for miles and miles and miles....
