I have flown KLM at least 5 times beween Cardiff and Manila and my carry-on baggage has never been measured or weighed. On each occasion, both in Cardiff and Manila, the check-in agent has simply handed me a blue KLM Cabin Baggage label.

    Your mileage may vary!

The desk always do it at Manchester, me I've never been handed the label at either Glasgow or Manchester.

They are major airports and possibly the passenger volume justifies KLM employing their own staff. Cardiff has just Fokker F70 two flights a day and there the airline uses Servisair as its handling agent. That might account for the difference :)

Do you have any information about Birmingham ? ;)

Not really. You just need to be smart. ;)
You can take out some stuff from a hand baggage and ask your friend to guard them when you will be checking in.
Remember that checking in is just on the start of the all process. So technically you can even still go out from the airport and return to home if you live close. :p
They are doing all the searching stuff later after you check in your main luggage.

Do you really need to cheat the system?

KLM have a 23Kg allowance for checked in baggage on intercontinental flights included in the base fare. This includes the European connecting flight that is part of an intercontinental journey.

    >> KLM Baggage rules.

Check in as much as possible, the less hand luggage you carry, the easier it is for you.

Good question, for me the issue is my cameras, lenses, laptops and hard drives, I'm not about to put those in the hold, I do use pockets to redistribute a little weight but rarely more than 2kg. They are on a loser with me anyway as I am not small :)

    Plus teabags. :like:

A box of Yorkshire Teabags sits nicely in my backpack, next to my laptop, gets squashed if I put it in my checked in duffle bag.

Yes. I need to cheat the system because I work in the cosmetic company so all my suitcase that is going to check in is full of cosmetics and liquids for my tiger lady and her family.
This time the weight is reduced because other airlines allow you to check in 30 kg and KLM only 23 so i have to take some to hand baggage. :p

It's almost free for me and it will make my girl very happy so why not ? ;)

23 Kg of nail polish, mascara, and eye liner.

How many ladies are there in the family?

I mean cosmetics for a everyday use like: shower gels, shaving gels and foams, hand creams, face creams, sun lotions and other stuff.

Not the makeup like you mentioned. ;)

You would probably have been better sending that over in a Balikbayan box a couple of months ago :) but good luck with it, you could also buy an extra bag in the hold from KLM for about £60 that would get an extra 23kg.

Couple of months ago I was flying with PAL and I was doing the same thing with 30 kg suitcase. Haha. :p

I fly with Emirates as well as KLM, Emirates give you 30kg in the hold using multiple bags but only 7kg carry on luggage with dimensions smaller than my camera/laptop rucksack, you're getting 35 kilo with KLM and 37 kg with Emirates not a huge overall difference.

For me the 12 kilo allowance on KLM is very valuable when transporting a lot of professional level camera kit.

PAL have a limited carry on allowance too, again 7kg I think.

    Thought...

Would a Philipino rice farmer fly to the UK with 23 Kg of rice in his suitcase,

to hand out to his "Rice Lady" and her family living in Birmingham?

    (Most probably - yes)

Yes. But lady at the PAL check in desk was nice enough to not see that I had take away lots of stuff from my hand luggage and was keeping it separately in the plastic bag from the shop. :p
Of course I put everything back to the bag as soon as I walked away from the check in desk. :p

But to be honest nobody ever asked me about hand luggage when I was flying with Emirates. :)

Anyone have any information about taxis on terminal 3 ?
Because last time I paid 3000 pesos for a taxi to quezon city. :p haha

But it was my first time visiting Philippines and 12 am in the middle of the night. Second time was in terminal 2 so it was easy there. :)
This time I will be there at 6 pm so I can even walk from the airport to the city streets to catch a normal taxi. :)

I flew on Cebu Pacific from Cebu to Terminal 3 Manila in March this year. I am disabled so I had the help of a porter to transport me in a wheelchair. When the porter asked if I wanted the airport taxi or a standard taxi, I asked which was the cheapest. He replied the standard one (which I knew already) He then took me to the standard taxi rank, but don't ask me where it was as when you are sitting in a wheelchair with a porter who knows where he is going, you don't have to worry about these things!

BTW, you can always wear some of your hand luggage, which is what I now do, being confined to a wheelchair some of the time...

    http://www.skyscanner.net/news/best-wearable-luggage-jackets-reviewed-beat-airline-baggage-charges

But there is nothing to stop you wearing such a jacket (filled to the brim) and carry hand luggage as well! Not even Ryanair are challenging the use of such jackets (yet)...

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1292933/How-help-17-pocket-jacket-I-beat-Ryanair-game.html

This is the jacket I bought...

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00BXGXC9Q?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

I like it because it is short sleeve (not so hot in Philippines weather) and has a big 'poachers' pocket at the back. Being short sleeve also makes it easier to take off when you are sitting down in a wheelchair or you can put it on and take it off when seated on the plane - I find myself wearing it on KLM flights to/from Manila if the captain decides the plane should not be heated too much!
