I understand and although I have watched Fantasia I didn't remember Ravel's music as part of it, these are the pieces that are supposed to be in Fantasia.

It wasn't a reply as such, so Malcolm can be forgiven for diverging a bit :)

I think he was talking in the grander scheme of classical music :)

Possibly was going deaf when he composed Fur Elise. Later he was complacently deaf but still wrote music.

Let me refer you to this thread John, I know you appreciate this kind of music already but Stu was interested in finding out about classical music way back then, and it points out some of the really good people we have lost along the way, Majah is still a moderator here but she does not participate much now, been a long time since she posted and Stu kind of drifted away which was a shame as he was a very interesting chap, oddly enough he was right into good quality hifi which make the thread even more interesting.

Not sure if I mentioned it but I had a musical background as a teenager. I took an A level in Music in 6th form. So my interest in classical music started back then and before then. I do find that many people do not share that interest including my ex wife and my current wife.

I do find that to do it justice it is necessary to listen to it full on with no distractions which rarely happens (for me anyway). My ex wife was into classical art and I picked up a lot on that in my first marriage but the ex didn’t reciprocate. And again Mrs Ash is not interested.

That of course doesn’t mean I don’t like anything else. It just means I like music from a broad range of sources.

No I don't remember you saying that but I am impressed, that A level takes true skill sir!

It's a shame that your wife is not moved by such music but I am not even sure I could convince my children to expand their taste to such a level, saying that they will unknowingly appreciate it as part of the movies they watch, Janna and James loved Frozen which is very orchestral and they actually like Frozen 2 more and I almost agree with them.

Obviously thread drifting here, but I see music as a broad spectrum, at heart Folk music is what truly moves me today, some of it is technically close to classical but all of it is on a spectrum of technical and emotional beauty and all of it is good.
