Earlier, this month, I drove to Glasgow for work. I was attending the Caravan and Motor home Show at the SEC in my capacity of Wine Consultant. We had a wee stand and happily dispensed free samples and took orders for delivery by the case. Personally I did very well and have no complaints about the work.
My little gripe is the state of the roads in the city. Never experienced so many pot holes in any UK cities as bad as in Glasgow. It is shocking. I used to go there about twice or three times a year, and this is the first time that I was forced to notice the lack of necessary repairs and the poor standards of repairs if they were done in places.
Maybe, I noticed more, because this time we were staying at an AirBnB in town itself, as opposed to our usual haunts in Stirling.
    On a lighter note,
German car drivers north of the border seem to be just as cretinous as the ones in the south...

I'm not making excuses for the state of the roads in Glasgow, I live on the east coast of Scotland and our roads are bad there as well, however roads are always at their worst at this time of the year a couple of hard frosts during any winter causes much of the damage which is usually found where tracking has been done on the road to lay new services or the surrounds to street furniture, water gets into the cracks and when this freezes it bursts it open, I was a Mans Hole Inspector for many years working for BT and have inspected many holes in my time.

Street Works? this is the common term for any work that takes place on Public roads, usually done by a disconnected contractor that gives the cheapest quote for the job to the councils, they often turn up on the job with hand painted lorries always in Lavvy Door Green it is verging on criminal what these people get away with, even when work is done by the direct labour of the local Roads Authority usually this is not done to acceptable standards.

I had a trip down the the outskirts of London last December and the state of the roads there left a lot to be desired.
